The anagama kiln and the new one being built out back are impressive. The studios for processing the local clay, throwing and glazing all had individual spaces in historic buildings. I fist loved the chime bowls hanging out front on the porch, the shelves outside full of the sons work. Inside I was stunned by beautiful artistry. I love trees and that was a continued theme in this shop. The soul bowls were lovely too- a concept beautifully brought to realization by the artist. The behind the scenes tour was just the icing. I bought 2 pieces and struggled immensely trying to choose. One carved tree wall plaque and one woodfired bottle with a tree carved in. Thank you for the meet and greet- and I might snag one of the bowl chimes on my next visit!

Just wish he weren't so pro-army, I mean, I was glad he was glad to support the troops and wanted to keep thanking the manchild I was with, but still, it was a little weird at the end. I loved her little shop and really loved getting a little perspective from a generational potter. Both her mother's and father's family were potters and she was one of five kids who were raised making pottery and feeding the farm animals. She talked to me about how as a small kid- you would make 100 coaster a day to start. Once you were consistent enough, you could move onto bowls. Her shop was filled with production pottery and I felt a little sad that this was work for these families and not the artistic outlet that pottery is to me. She also shared one technique I had never heard of and now I am itching to try! I picked out two little syrup pitchers from her shop- I thought they were adorable and our Bed and Breakfast was using them- so I was inspired to bring some home with me. I truly enjoyed this little stop and Mrs. Potts made a lasting impression on me!
