Potter's Park is where I spent a huge amount of my childhood. Playing on the swings, gossiping in the band rotunda, attempting to 'shoot hoops' with my brother on the basket ball courts and learning to ride my bike on the field - it's absolutely full of good memories.
This having been said, I will share a word of warning to anyone on rollerblades in this park. The path on the big hill may look like a fun idea, but the trees on either side of this path drop little hard berries. Berries that are the perfect size to get stuck between the wheels of your rollerblades, jam them, and result in you flipping and skidding your way down the pavement. It's a horrific experience, and one I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Be warned!
This bad experience aside, Potter's Park is a great place to meet up with other families and your friends and blow off a bit of steam.
Tip: Carols by Candlelight are one of the many family oriented events the park hosts (though when I used to go you were actually allowed to have proper candles - shock horror), keep your eye out for the next event at Potter's Park, get a picnic together and enjoy some time with your family in an iconic Auckland park. read more
