This was a wonderful equine facility that had fallen into disrepair but is now under new, young owners. Repairs so far made significant improvement in its' facilities safety and appearance. More work is presently underway. The current crew are very knowledgeable and hard working. We feel that both our horses and ourselves are well cared for here. We originally boarded here for 3 1/2 years and enjoyed riding over its' ample trails and using the formal arenas. We have happily come back to ride here once again. As a horse owner and boarder, I feel like it's my responsibility to educate others in the horse community on how terrible this facility really is. I moved there originally because I needed a fast, short-term solution. However, in the short 3 months it was never ending care problems, stealing, lawsuits/scandals, and I learned that borders do not have a voice about their own horses. Recently, Potomac Riverside was taken over by new "management" and I use that term loosely. Rebekah and James's knowledge of horses and care is below zero - in the sense that boarders had to step up to teach them what a halter was, how to clean a stall, fill water buckets, feed grain, and lead horses. That does not even cover lameness or any medical issues. They wouldn't know what to look for if a horse were to colic or even know what colic is. A couple of other issues that I would like to also share. The first being that they ignorantly ordered oak shavings instead of pine. Oak shavings are toxic to all livestock and can cause colic, liver and kidney failure, and even death. When multiple boarders tried to educate them about this, they decided they were going to use the oak shavings anyway. Several vets had to be involved in order to correct this detrimental mistake. James and Rebekah also decided (without informing any horse owners) that they would be corralling the horses in from the fields instead of leading them. They refer to it as their "gate system", but it's corralling. This was tried a couple of years ago, by the owner of the farm herself. A horses ended up breaking its leg because it was trying to run to keep up with the mixed heard. It was euthanized the next day. Again, when boarders voiced their concerns about this system being implemented, they were either kicked off the property or asked to move their horses. I would go every single day to see my horses to make sure they had enough food and water, to clean my own stalls, and bought my own shavings because I had to make sure they were safe. I also moved out two days early and never received my money back for those two extra days I paid. James and Rebekah are unethical in more ways than one. I am sure this barn will try marketing tactics such as rebranding, but do not let a new farm name, low-level trainers, and other tactics fool you. read more

The owner/manager, Anna, has just revealed how she operates. I received 2 very long (saved) voicemails from her this weekend, after 7 months of silence. She says everything I am saying in my Yelp review is not true, she maintains not an ounce of fault or err, has an appropriate lie in response for everything I claimed in my review, and has threatened to hire an attorney and sue me unless I remove, yes remove, my "negative" review. She says it's negative, hurting her business, and is defamation of her character. Well, this character is now threatening to sue me for my honest Yelp review. Laughable! And this my friends is exactly the drama you sign up for here. I moved my horse, with a broken leg, to get away from this. If that doesn't speak loud enough, well then, good luck. It is my American right to express my opinion and experiences of a business on Yelp. It is harassment to call me and threaten to sue me for telling the truth. I do not care about anyone else's experience or review of this place. If you have a great experience, good for you. My horse is still in confinement healing from his broken leg, 10K later, and I still don't know if I'll ever be able to ride him again. I have posted these reviews for him and other horses who may be promised they'll be provided with water. Am I calling her and threatening to sue her for negligence? Anna took care of my horse for almost 3 years while we were boarded at Potomac Riverside Stables. She spent half of that time on field board and half of that time on stall board. With my busy work schedule, Anna would frequently keep me updated on my horse's health, often grooming her and giving her extra love at no extra charge. Anna was great at coordinating farrier and vet visits as needed, and always updating me if I was unable to be present. She is a wonderful communicator and extremely responsive! I knew I could always trust my horse would be looked after in my absence. She truly loves the horses she cares for and it shows in their health, as well as in the maintenance of the property. If it weren't for my moving for work, I would have stayed forever! read more

So I found the field with the downed tree and damaged fence. I also understand why it's been given a low priority on the list of things to do. It's at the bottom of the field in a heavily wooded area with heavy under brush. I can't see any horse wanting to leave a perfectly good field full of yummy grass to wander into thickets full of thorns. My experience so far has been great. I got some great advice from the owner (who worked as a vet tech for 15 years) on how to improve the condition of my horse's hooves and the owner always goes out of her way to greet everyone and chat for a bit when time permits. I have seen the barn hands cleaning stalls and moving horses to other stalls to accommodate the clean up process. My horse is fed her SmartPak supplements daily. The indoor arena as well as the outdoor dressage and jumping rinks are groomed and kept neat daily. I don't know. Maybe since my horse has always been field boarded, she knows how to keep herself out of harms way. Winter is coming and all of the horses have been moved from their summer fields to their winter fields. Let's see how the coming months go and I will update this review afterwards. read more

My gelding was very happy here! We loved going out on the trails. Anna and her team took exceptional care of my horse. In addition to horse boarding there is an option to lease monthly or one time which is a great deal. You actually get to ride a variety of different horses. I really cannot recommend this place enough. Anna was so welcoming and helpful from the start. When we first met her she took us around to show us the beautiful trails and once we started boarding with her she would often go out with me on the trails. Even with field board if you are unable to attend vet or farrier appointments she or a member of her team will take care of it at no extra cost. This is a great place to ride or keep a horse! The facility is exceptionally well cared for and the horse all looked really happy. The horses had both stables and paddocks, and were checked on pretty much constantly throughout the day and night by a great team. I have ridden all my life and as a military member who frequently moves it is challenging to find great stables. Potomac Riverside Stables, was a beautiful, calm, and safe facility. I will recommend to all my equestrian friends. There are very few places that are this spacious...trail riding and awesome training in one place! I have been at Potomac Riverside for 18 years. My horses have always been well cared for. One of them cut her leg badly in the field one time when I was out of town. She needed daily care and Anna not only changed her bandages but also let me keep her in a stall. She would have died without the care she received. The trails are beautiful and there are many of them to ride as well as good access to the C&O canal. It's been my happy place for many years! read more

A lovely, down home area to board your horses. Anna, the owner, is a gracious host. She toured my husband and I around the facility and it was just what I needed. I am a Wyoming native and working in DC for the next couple of years, the Potomac Riverside Stable made me feel right at home. The stables were very clean and the horses were very happy. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor riding for English and Western riders. On our way out Anna even directed us to the Ferry and boat dock. This is a lovely place if you want to come riding or even board your horse. We will definitely be coming back for another visit. A lovely, country area to get away from the city life. read more

Horse and rider paradise! We have boarded at this stable since 2009. The stalls are huge. The owner has extra horses that can be rented so that you and your pals can ride on the 400 acres of the farm or ride on the canal if you need an extra horse. There are three outside arenas and a gigantic indoor. Because we show a lot and stay overnight at other stables, we are familiar with a lot of barns. PR is by far the best. Horses get great care. The owner is diligent, and the staff is reliable and knows horses. If you have a problem here, you have a problem every where. read more

I have been boarding my horse here for YEARS and Ana and her team have been beyond what I could have asked for. I moved to Austin and kept my horse in Maryland while I got settled and the Potomac Riverside crew have given my horse such great care that I never have to worry. Each time I come home my horse is in good health and Ana keeps me updated on any issues that may arise. When my horse needed surgery Ana gladly drove him to the hospital and back with no hesitation. I never leave reviews on yelp, in fact I had to create an account to leave this one. My horse was at Potomac Riverside for over 13 years. The only reason he's not there now is because I moved across country. Anna and her staff have always looked out for my horse, I trust Anna's opinion when it came to his health and care, it's never been wrong. I never worried about my horse and he means everything to me (I've had him for over 22yrs). The horse world is full of eccentric people and review sites like this give them a platform for their 'grandstanding.' Many of the negative reviews I see here should be taken with a grain of salt (and further proves why I don't rely heavily on yelp reviews). When in doubt, go visit and see for yourself. read more
