Most of…read morethe trails come off the Phillips Road entrance, which is coincidentally where the nature center is located. If you need a bathroom or to buy a Parks Pass, this is where you'll go. The other two entrances are off Hunt Highway (Wagon Wheel Drive) and Brenner Pass. Most of the easy/family-friendly trails are off Phillips Road- lots of loops with gradual, minimal rolling hills. The Wagon Wheel trails definitely have more elevation and challenging features. Both of the parking lots I've been to are wide, allowing plenty of car and equine parking. It's so fun to see the horses and riders out on the trails! You'll also see bikers too. This is also a popular park for races - running and biking, based on some friends experiences. Make sure to bring cash for parking if you don't have a Parks Pass, in case of emergency and/or if there's not a ranger manning each station.

We did not hike the Picketpost Trail up the mountain, but instead did an hour out and back along the Arizona Trail. While the scenery at Lost Dutchman State Park east of Phoenix is beautiful, driving the additional 30 minutes east to this trailhead is well worth the extra time. It's less crowded and I found the backdrop of Picketpost Mountain spectacular. If you are new to the Sonoran Desert, you will find the landscape fascinating; there is much more green than you would expect, at least in the winter. Of course, the saguaros are the highlight, and the saguaro sentinels abound up and down the ridges on this stretch of the Arizona Trail. I loved it. Access to the trailhead is on the south side of US60 about five miles west of Superior. There's a sign for the trailhead on the highway.

Let me make something clear before I start rambling and raving--Picketpost is not just a hike. It's…read morea guaranteed adventure! You know how they say a picture is worth a thousand words? Well the number of routes to get to the summit are pretty high up there as well. Coming from Phoenix on the I-60, look for signage just before Superior heading eastbound. Turn right onto a heavily worn road which will lead you to the trailhead. NOTE: if you have a sedan like me, be prepared for a bumpy ride! Good thing I just got new tires last week lol. Once you park and start along the trailhead, the important thing is to continue straight until you find the rocks pointing in an arrow to the left (see photo). I made the mistake of swinging left at the first fork approx 3-4 min into the hike and ended up finding myself amongst a pack of cattle all staring at me...yeah pretty intimidating! After about 8 min after swinging left at the proper spot, you reach the nightmarish incline that seems to never end. Some say this hike is equal to Flatiron. I'd say without a doubt Picketpost is much harder. There are spots during the ascent where you have to rock climb and know how to position yourself to avoid slipping and falling. Definitely not for the faint of heart or for those who are afraid of heights! For those who love adventure, it's pretty darn exciting but exhausting at the same time hehe! After what seems like an eternity of climbing/scrambling, you reach the flat summit. Within a few more minutes you are at the red mailbox and convenient metal bench. The 360 view is downright breathtaking and perfect for a photos. Be sure to remember to log your journey in a notebook located inside the mailbox! The descent is almost as hard as the ascent as you really need to watch your feet placement (Gravity is no longer on your side!). Unlike Picacho, there are no cables. One false move or loss of balance and you might be toast. Overall, this hike is excruciating but extremely rewarding. Be careful out there and have a blast! Oh and stay hydrated especially during the warm spring/summer/fall months!

Once here, it's pretty neat. You can hike multiple different trails and there is a nice view of the Superstition Mountains. This is a great option if you don't want to drive far to go hiking and you are in the east valley area. The parking is free!

The Paseo Trail travels through Chandler along the Consolidated Canal. It runs mostly N-S,…read moreconnecting to other trails along the canal in Mesa and Gilbert, totaling around 18 miles. The trail is mostly paved on the east side of the canal and pea gravel hard pack on the west side. It runs along subdivisions, golf courses and even a couple farms. The grade is very gentle throughout. I would consider the trail primarily for use by joggers, bicyclists and equestrians. There is parking at the address listed for the trail and nearby parking at Tumbleweed Recreation Center at McQueen and Germann. There is also easy to find street parking near many of the junctions with major streets. A good southern starting point is off of Riggs Rd. between Arizona and McQueen. There is plenty of street parking. From here the ride north is mostly a slight uphill ride, making the return trip a nice relaxing roll. One issue with the trail is crossings with major streets. Most are not marked for motorists as trail crossings and there is no crosswalk so you may be faced with a relatively long wait to get a break in traffic or forcing the issue and forging ahead with care.

It's right near some power plant which gave it an industrial vibe. The mountain was a straight incline on concrete. The very top was the best part, but I'm in no rush to hike here again.

I have rented Kayaks from Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch several times over the past few years and have…read morealways had great service and a wonderful experience. Reserving a spot and kayak is easy on the online website. Once you navigate down to the main road to the Guest Ranch, it can be a little confusing as they always have a roadblock as you progress towards the parking lot. Just proceed past the sign to the parking lot ahead. After parking, walk back towards the ranch and check in. Guest services will provide a wrist band as well as a parking pass to place on your dashboard. Once your reservation time is ready, you will be provided a quick orientation of the equipment, navigation of the river and where the staff will pick you up at the end of your float. The staff is always super helpful. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a carabiner to hook on your dry bag or backpack to the kayak. Even though the majority of the river is an easy float, there are some small rapids. You may accidentally flip the kayak if you get caught in a tough spot on the River. This will prevent you from losing your bag! I'm experienced and have flipped once or twice. Depending on the time of year and water flow, the float can take 2 or 3 hours. Beautiful views of the landscape, wildlife including various birds and the gorgeous wild horses! At the end of the float, the staff will load your kayaks and take you back to the Guest Ranch. In the main building, be sure to stop by the gift shop prior or after the float for souvenirs or in case you forgot supplies you may need. They have several items including sunscreen, water shoes, hats, shirts snd much more. I found prices to be reasonable. This is the perfect place to bring out of town visitors. They will love it.

They are rib by volunteers. The trails are clean, dogs welcome everywhere, horses in designated areas, camp sites also available to rent which come with bbq grills and pits along with space for tents. Check out their website for the info. This is a great park to take your kids to the playground, go fishing, get your steps in, take your dog food a walk or have a date. Many picture perfect spots which are popular for graduation, wedding, and birthday pics. I even saw a couple get married on the bridge at sunset a quick 5 minute ceremony to not hold up anyone. Parking in a few spots and adjacent to the library for extra parking. 2 bathrooms I've been to are clean and maintained. Water fountains also there.
