Everyone is quick to leave a bad review, but not leave a good one. That's because people usually…read moregive a review when they want to vent and complain about something. When things are good, people usually don't bother reviewing because things worked out and that's 'normal' for them. So I'm here to provide an updated, August 2025 review of this epic blast from the past post office. The USPS worker in the picture is super nice and helpful. The office itself looks well maintained, and the PO Box section holy wow it's spacious! I dropped off a package. If it delivers successfully, I'll update this post and will maintain its 5 stars. If my package gets lost, then I'll have to drop the stars down to 1 or 2 and it'll unfortunately match others experiences. But for now we'll wait and see.

Things really have not gotten any better. We still have one or two carriers that do their job well…read moreand I say, "Thank you " to them. But to the rest of them, to say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I lately placed a major order with Amazon. The tracking showed a status of "Delivered." I never received it. After waiting for a day, I drove around our rural neighborhood and started looking at my neighbors' driveways. I found my package about a quarter mile down the road by my neighbor's gate. Their house number is not even close to ours. They apparently were not home. I'm just glad we don't have problems with porch pirates in this area or I would have been out several hundred dollars. We have had two other Amazon deliveries that never made it either with a "Delivered" status. My next problem has to do with the system in general and I don't know how much of this has to do with the Ione Post Office but probably most of it. A few weeks ago, I purchase a living plant online as a gift for our next door neighbor's little girl. According to the tracking, it made it to the Ione PO. From there it got sent to Riverbank. And then back to Ione. And then to Redding and finally back to Ione. It was delivered but half dead. And now our Kohl's order is experiencing the same all expense paid trip around the state. Tracking shows it was sent to Ione and then to Riverbank. Who knows where it will wind up? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

We had a package to mail and we needed postage on it and wanted it to just be left at the front…read moredoor at the address where it was going. The lady said we had to have a signature for it in order for that to happen. I told her "I don't need one" she refused us service on that. I tried to explain to her that you don't have to have a signature. USPS WILL deliver your package at the door without a signature. She just ranted about "DO you know how long it would take a carrier to deliver if they did that?" WHAT? Good grief. I googled and did my research on this at nauseam. All you need to do is sign a waiver. In fact, most packages do not get a signature. She had told me that was "UPS" yes, but also its USPS will do that. So, we ended up spending more money than need be. Then, we had a card that didn't have a returned address on it. We don't always put one on but big deal. She would not put tracking on that unless I put a return address. Goodness. SO, we went somewhere else and didn't have a problem. And it was delivered just fine. I'm not against return address but to refuse service, no. And then she went on about how the post office is losing money, etc. Well, some folks got a pay cut in their homes. Its not my concern about her pay. I'm concerned about the customers needs and so they don't get ripped off. What started that was we had a package returned but we don't get our money back. That list could go on and on. Ok, I'm done ranting. But friends, USPS WILL deliver a package without a signature.

I'm kind of blown away by all the negative reviews for this post office, considering that I've…read morepersonally been here twice and never had a bad experience. I also know that Post offices, like any government service, tend to be the go-to for rants about inefficiency and bad experiences, so let me be the first to offer them a glowing review. Both times I have been here were for mailing packages. It's a spacious building with plenty of parking that never gets too busy because there isn't quite the population in this area to ever make that so. The postal folks have always been friendly and always done their job right. As far as the basic functions of the service, I have always gotten my packages to where they need to be through this branch. Say what you will about the post office in general. I say it's a service we take for granted and that includes the folks who put up with the steady stream of grumpy customers and their bs.
