I live out-of-state and needed to hire an attorney who specializes in Estate Planning in Columbus,…read moreOH. I found Ms. Jane Higgins Marx's name (Carlile Patchen & Murphy, LLP) in an attorney registry and scheduled a phone consultation. During the consultation, she agreed to take my case and requested I send her several documents, including the entire copy of a trust. After she received my documents, I emailed her asking her rates, to which she responded. She also asked for my permission to phone the attorney of the defendant in this case. After several weeks of no communication, I emailed her asking for an update and did not get a response. I waited another week, and decided to leave a voicemail with the same request for an update. Again, no response. At that point, I wrote her a letter stating my frustration and disappointment in the total lack of communication. In order to be fair to her, I gave her several weeks to respond to my letter before I left this review. After not receiving a response to my letter, I decided to submit this review. I feel I was essentially "ghosted." At the bare minimum, I should have been contacted, even if it was to tell me she was too busy, or that she decided not to take my case. My case is time-sensitive, and I basically wasted four weeks that I could have been working with another attorney. In addition, because she never communicated back about whether she called the defendant's attorney or not, my case could now be negatively impacted. If she did, in fact, speak with the other attorney, that attorney has now been informed that I've hired an attorney, and they now have weeks to prepare, which now puts my case at a disadvantage. At the very least, her failure to communicate with me demonstrates a lack of integrity and pride in her work and is all together unprofessional.

Low and behold, another $3k later in charges after my final hearing. Now, the guardianship case was successful but $8k later? The lack of communication after hiring a lawyer for that much money was insane. Almost no help or guidance was provided from the office during the process. This is all new to anyone going through this process for the first time and it would be nice for your own lawyer to show you the ropes. Not even close. They're email communication was horrible. They just sent attachments and said read this. No personalized communications that you would expect from the lawyer, that you hired, and paid $5k for. Don't make the same mistake I did. Lexie Enlow and Chris Heckert were outstanding and incredibly knowledgeable. I received quick, informed responses and was always offered multiple perspectives. I never felt pushed to do anything beyond what I was comfortable with, and cost transparency was always apparent. They were also incredibly understanding and willing to work with me financially throughout what became a long and expensive process, which meant more to me than I can express. Most of my communication went through Lexie Enlow, and she was really the star of the show I truly felt like my case mattered to her. My stress was consistently met with rational, knowledgeable explanations of the law rather than responses to my highly emotional state. My anxiety was never met with a condescending tone or frustration, but instead with empathy and problem-solving solutions that were consistent with the law and kept my child's best interests at heart. One thing I especially appreciated was that I was never simply told what I wanted to hear. Lexie and Chris were honest with me about possible outcomes, explained the reasoning behind their advice, and made sure I understood my options before making decisions. Going into hearings and trial, I felt extremely prepared. Lexie helped me understand what to expect and how to approach testimony without ever making me feel coached or rehearsed. Chris was equally prepared and thorough when it came time to actually litigate the case. I always felt like they knew my case, knew the details, and had a reason behind their strategy. I also had some experience with Mitch, the other partner at the firm, when Chris was unavailable. I appreciated his support as well. It was reassuring to know that even if my primary attorney was unavailable, there was another attorney within the firm who could step in, understand what was happening, and offer his own expertise. All three attorneys brought something different to the table while still providing consistent guidance. Family law is such a sensitive matter, and when I started this process, I genuinely did not know what to expect or what a "good" attorney looked like. I was dealing with one of the most stressful periods of my life, and having attorneys who could separate the emotion from the legal issues, explain what actually mattered, and keep me focused on the bigger picture was invaluable. I wasn't sure what a "good" family-law attorney looked like when this started. Now I know Heckert & Moreland provide the BEST attorneys.

Review of Mitchell Moreland - Unethical, Dismissive, and Part of the Problem…read more I consulted Mitchell Moreland regarding serious ethical violations and potential malpractice by my former attorney. Instead of receiving legitimate legal advice, I was met with dismissiveness, unprofessionalism, and shocking admissions about how lawyers protect each other from accountability. Major Issues with His Conduct: Dismissed Clear Evidence of Misconduct Despite providing emails and documentation proving unethical behavior by my prior lawyer, Moreland brushed it off as "normal" and claimed nothing was wrong. He admitted lawyers cover for each other, saying, "Your evidence doesn't matter-- Discouraged Reporting to Disciplinary Counsel He lied about the disciplinary process, claiming: *"They'll only look at 1-3 things and ignore the rest."* His attitude was, "Don't bother, nothing will happen." Laughed at Serious Ethical Violations When shown proof that my former attorney admitted judicial bias against immigrants in writing, Moreland laughed, as if amused by the carelessness of leaving evidence. His reaction suggested this is just a game among lawyers--who can exploit clients without getting caught. Admitted to Manipulating the System He boasted, "We do this all the time--we know how to avoid consequences." He even pressures clients to waive their rights, confirming a pattern of misconduct. Hypocritical Given His Own Disciplinary Record After the consultation, I discovered Moreland has been disciplined multiple times--explaining why he downplays ethics violations. His advice wasn't legal guidance--it was damage control for his profession's corruption. Final Verdict: Complicit, Unethical, and Untrustworthy Mitchell Moreland is not a lawyer you can trust if you've been wronged by another attorney. He protects his peers over clients, mocks serious ethical breaches, and actively discourages accountability. If you want real justice, avoid him at all costs--he's part of the problem. I have recorded our conversation. Zack
