Spurred by a recommendation to explore Portsoy by a geologist with a background in Scotland geology, I stopped by Portsoy Harbour and Portsoy Beach on Monday 8 July 2019. Looking around to the west of the harbour was remains of a wall of a building overlooking rocks along the edge of the water. Ah ha! The rocks were the beach!
Looking to see if there was a path down to the rocks, I found a not too steep area and made my way down. Found beautiful structures both in the cliffs of rock as well as chunks of rock resting by the water. Pockets of water in rock at and below sea level formed tide pools with kelp and seaweed undulating as the waves made their way in. Further along the coast was a portion of shoreline with more cobble-sized rocks. read more
