Jim McCarthy UP TOP ROOFING…read more831 Louisiana St. Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 To Jim McCarthy and his crew, On recommendation from a friend of mine, I contacted Jim McCarthy, owner of Up Top Roofing. My friend highly recommended Jim and his crew after having her re-roofing done by them. From start to finish clean up, Jim and his crew were professional, thorough, and friendly. Jim always returned phone calls promptly and answered all my questions throughout the process. I needed some touch up stain on my chimney and cupola, and Jim and crew got to that right away, saving me the time and expense of having to hire another contractor. Up Top Roofing's attention to detail is unsurpassed. Not only their professional work on replacing my roof, but their care in protecting the surrounding yard and gardens impressed me. The crew spent a lot of time looking for any nails or other debris in the surrounding beds and left my property spotless and my garden's unharmed. Jim's final bill came in under his original estimate and below another roofer's estimate, which I appreciated so much. I would highly recommend Up Top Roofing to anyone looking for a roofing contractor. Thank you Jim!

We looked at 10 contractors, received estimates from 2, and chose Y&S due to their fair pricing and the care they took to understand exactly what we wanted. We watched the careful attention to detail to ensure the fence was completed where and how we wanted it. The workers were skilled and friendly, and the Project Manager inspired confidence. The job was completed ahead of schedule and every detail was perfect! This all may sound too good to be true...but that's exactly the experience we had. We will absolutely use them again. Honestly, we've worked with several good contractors over the years and Y&S is definitely among the best.

He used phrases like "on the high side" and I can't imagine it being more than that," and made us feel assured that our budgeting was appropriate. Given that, we agreed to a deposit of $250 for him to go ahead with a formal quote, per company policy. When the proposal came back, it was $45K, which is more than double what we had discussed. While I understand that quality work and materials are costly, I don't understand how his verbal estimates were so grossly inaccurate, especially when he said he's been working there for 18 years. While I understand the deposit was intended to cover his time in gathering the estimates, and that he "doesn't work for free," a large part of his job is properly estimating potential costs for potential clients, and he did not do that. We agreed to the $250 deposit based on incredibly inaccurate numbers, and when I requested our deposit back, we were denied (twice.) While I don't think it was his intention to be deceptive, we felt swindled out of $250. I was very disappointed that they weren't willing to refund us.
