Having traveled for three (3) months in Italy, exclusively in the Tuscany region covering the…read moreinterior, the coast, and many of the seven (7) islands of the Tuscan archipelago that we were allowed to visit. One of the islands we visited was Capraia, a very lovely island without all the fancy trappings of a larger island. We stayed at one of the "Uappala" organization's hotels called La Mandola. It is a four 4 Star hotel on a wonderful property. But, this property is not being maintained to keep the beauty that it should and continue to have. It became apparent to us that it is not being maintained mainly because they are only in operation about 5 or 6 months out of the year. Where in part, it is understandable; on the other hand it is a major corporation charging major prices. Anyway, that being said our purpose in writing this review is to let those who plan on traveling to Uappala hotels to make you aware of the deceitful practices that they employ. Our original reservation was for eight (8) nights, however, because of incorrect ferry information that we received, we could not make the ferry as originally planned. We arrived the following day to make it a seven (7)-night stay. Of course, we notified the hotel of our situation and that we would be arriving one day later. A few days later we had a conversation with the manager who's name is Giuseppe about a credit for the one day we were not at the hotel. The reservation was prepaid a few weeks before we arrived based on the company's policy. He agreed it should be refunded and that he would take care of it. The reservation was also booked at half board, however, one night when going for dinner they informed us that the restaurant closes for one day on Wednesday. So tell us how do you book half board serving no dinner on one day without previously informing your guest? To Giuseppe's (the manager) credit, he paid for our dinner at a local restaurant. But, this situation should not have occurred. Now, back to the credit that they said we would receive. They now refuse to give us the credit after it was established it would be refunded. You see we did not cancel our reservation! Understanding that there are losses of deposits based on complete cancellations, or no shows, we would be then open for those cancellation fees. Keep in mind we were told that the one night would be credited to our account. We have now filed a dispute with American Express to have our account credited. We are posting this review to make you aware that you can be told anything while at the property, and then, when you are gone they renege on their word, hoping that when you arrive home you will not pursue what is right!
