By the time we finished touring with Roberto for two days we felt that we knew so much about the area, history and culture of the region. Roberto's knowledge or art, history, food and culture was so impressive. The tour we did with Roberto was much more than him driving us from place to place. Each place we went was so carefully planned and curated. We visited wineries, vineyards and a sheep farm that makes cheese. With his help, we were able to visit every place we wanted to see as well as some smaller unknown, hidden gems. We saw so many beautiful landscapes and Roberto stopped frequently for us to take in the views! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Roberto. One of our drivers even took a detour from our route to take us on a tour of some catacombs off the beaten path that apparently only locals really know about. Highly recommended, but be sure to sit in the front if you easily get car sick. This was our first time here. Livorno is an Italian port city on the west coast of Tuscany. It's known for its seafood, Renaissance-era fortifications and modern harbor with a cruise ship port. Its central Terrazza Mascagni, a waterside promenade with checkerboard paving, is the city's main gathering place. The bastions of the 16th-century Fortezza Vecchia face the harbor and open onto Livorno's canal-laced Venezia Nuova quarter. This is a very industrial port with lots of commercial and cargo ships. After we arrived at the cruise terminal at the port of Livorno we boarded the cruise ship bus to Lerici. When we arrived at Lerici we walked from the cruise ship bus to our rubber boat meeting point at the marina. More to come regarding Lerici.

My eyes immediately widened. Did I hear him correctly? Was something lost in translation? I paused to process.....instinctively went outside for some fresh air.....and came back in after momentarily catching my breath. Still visibly choked-up, I struggled to speak during my waterfall of emotions......."Who's cutting onions in here?" This had all hit me, fast, all at once. I was beyond moved and thoroughly excited. Now, I've been riding for nearly 34 years -- from dirt bikes to adventure bikes to the high-speed track, and as an instructor -- but this experience was something entirely different. What started as a "bus tour" magically transformed (with a twist of the wrist) into one of, if not, the most profound and unforgettable rides of my life. The awesome team at Arianna & Friends made everything seamless, and our private guide, Luca, was nothing short of exceptional -- professional, kind, and deeply passionate about sharing the hidden beauty of his piece of Tuscany. He led us through rolling hills, olive groves, and charming villages, while stopping at breathtaking viewpoints that perfectly captured the magic of the region. This was our ride, Luca included, not just mine. Even with all my years on two wheels, this day reminded me why I fell in love with riding in the first place -- the freedom, the connection, and the pure joy of the open road. Lisa zipped onto a side street, near the Leaning Tower, we hopped out, took some pictures, and on we went to Florence. Lisa had plenty of details to offer us in Pisa, but we wanted to move on. She happily obliged. As we made the approximate one hour drive to Florence, Lisa asked if we were interested in seeing and hearing about the Tuscan countryside, on our way to Florence. We said, "yes", and Lisa took a detour that added maybe a half an hour to our journey to Florence. On this pleasant detour we saw rolling vineyards, Tuscan villas and so many other beautiful aspects of Tuscany. And then, Lisa surprised us with a striking vantage point, where we enjoyed a view of Florence in the valley below. We stopped for pictures; Lisa took a cherished family photo for us. She also helped make sure a local vendor treated us fairly. It is typical in Florence for private car tour guides to offer their knowledge while inside the car. The real service offered by great guides, like Lisa, is to provide quality information, while getting you right next to the place you want to visit. Since there is no parking near these attractions, Lisa drives to a place she can wait with the car, while you enjoy yourself inside. At an agreed upon time and place, Lisa was right there to pick us up, and take us right to another attraction, providing great insight along the way. Every attraction I can recall during our visit offered audio guides; this professionally recorded information told us every we could possibly want to know about inside the attractions. Another outstanding convenience Red Cap provided was helping us to purchase our tickets to see Michelangelo's statue "David", well in advance of our arrival, ensuring we would see this artistic wonder, while we were in town.
