I don't get this Portillo's. The food is fine but the staff and service are just awful! Both times we've been the order has taken way too long (we see it just sitting on the counter and have had to ask if they could please hand it to us) and then it hasn't been correct. Both visits have been at non-peak times with few customers in the restaurant. Yet, the garbages were overflowing, tables were not bussed, the floors were filthy, etc. Why? There were plenty of workers just standing around doing nothing which is just frustrating to see. Is this a case of poor management, poor training, lazy workers? Who knows? I know that we will never return to this Portillo's and will be trying other locations and keeping fingers crossed that they are a better experience. read more

Was not impressed at all. The Italian sausage with peppers that I ordered was the smallest ,driest sausage I have ever eaten. It might've had three green peppers on there. I was excited about going -but now I don't think I'll go back. My partner did not like his meal either -it didn't help that an employee was walking around the general public seating area -putting french fries in his mouth. read more

Portillo's has been in West Madison for some time now and thanks to the pandemic I have no real sense of how long that time actually is. However, as with our recent visit, our experiences confirm that Portillo's is that slightly unique, slightly leveled up alternative to all the rest of the drive through options that exist these days. On the last visit, our cheeseburger with everything on it was juicy and the accoutrements were a fresh and tasty addition to the sandwich. Their fries are always good...perfectly crisp and never too salty. We also had a Caesar salad with grilled chicken that brought the wow factor for a drive thru salad. Fresh, crisp greens, well seasoned chicken breast, tasty shredded cheese, and a hard boiled egg were all delivered in the perfect proportion. Somehow they also manage to provide the perfect amount of salad dressing for the size of the salad which NEVER happens. Add that to the fact the they have a higher level drive thru service (see Chik-Fil-A) and I'm reminded that Portillo's is always high on the "Where do we want to eat?" list when needing a quality, quick bite in our lives. read more

Looked for a late night meal while visiting Madison. My wife had the regular hotdog with everything. It was was well made with fresh ingredients. I hade the Italian beef sandwich with peppers. It was reminiscent of a Lehigh Valley cheesesteak. The bread was perfect for the sandwich. The fires were freshly made and tasted great.The staff was quick and efficient and our order was perfect. read more

I love getting a beef and hot peppers, gives me a little reminder of Chicago. My main issue is that every order I've gotten is missing items. Sometimes it's little like a sauce other times it's been big like pieces of cake. Every time I order a salad with the house dressing, they never include the dressing. Please train your staff to put salad dressing in the bag if someone orders a salad. Every single time. No salad dressing. I'm usually picking up an order for the family and don't go through the bags until I'm home. If I come back I will go through everything before I leave. This last order was missing salad dressing, 2 pieces of cake, and 2 Giardiniera sauces. Because items are always missing, I wouldn't recommend ordering from a delivery service that will cost more for missing items. read more

What a nice treat near the mall! The new restaurant features most Portillo's classics except for the ribs but has a bowl option which I've never seen before. The food is consistent and I especially like the crunchy fries. The interior is very interesting with an old school diner decor and the space is large with many tables. Overall, I have no complaints and am excited to go back for Chicago hot dogs or Italian beef. read more

I've been to several portillos and tons of restaurants and I've never had customer service as great as I did tonight. Me and group of 6 other people entered at around 9pm and all ordered a variety of items and not a single item was bad. Every employee made the wait while things were being made enjoyable they made jokes and brought smiles to everyones faces. Thank you too Ms.Lee and every staff member tonight. read more

I am a Chicagoan. Portillo's is just the best. This location? Hell no. Barnelli's is not apart of it, all you can get is a chopped salad. However here is my beef: I have been here a handful of times. EVERY TIME THESE KIDS FORGET HALF OF THE ORDER. I always check my bag and at least 2/5 items are always missing. Then you'll sit there and argue with a 16 year old that can't even do a simple job. So if you want to be ripped off by kids who can't put food in a bag, this is the place. Double check your orders and be assertive. The lack of brain cells is apparent. read more

Not the Portillo's experience we are used to in Chicago. Order was not correct, bun on the burger was stale and it took forever to get the food. Used the drive through on a Sunday at noon, surprised that there was no line, now we understand and why. read more

This place is HORRIBLE!! Food is ok but service sucks!! Went to drive thru today. Five cars ahead of me. Took almost 10 minutes just to get up to place my order. Should have been my first clue. Then, after I placed my order, it took over 20 minutes to get up to the window to get my order. Then, I get home and they gave me the wrong order. Called to complain and the guy who answered the phone said I could not speak to person in charge and hung up on me. I wasted 30 minutes to get nothing to eat and then got a rude response. We visited the new Portillos in the West side in Madison, Wi for dinner on Friday 12/17 and lunch on Sat 12/18 . on both occasions we were joined another couple and their kids. We are all familiar with Portillos and the food and we're excited about the new restaurant close to our homes. Alas our excitement did not last long. The wait for orders was long on both occasions and after ordering we waited for our number to be called. Even though we were just a few customers away while ordering, the wait for the second order was very long. The kids were not happy with the wait and not were the adults. The same same thing happens on Sat morning and this time the wait was even longer. Food was ok but cold. It appeared to us that the staff needs more training to make the order taking and fulfillment a smooth process. Finally, we could hardly make out which order was being served because of poor mikes and the masks did but help. Perhaps they should consider a visual alert as well like they have in the dmv. Overall experience poor and perhaps we may visit only after a couple of months. Sad but realistic. read more

We like the food but the service is terrible. We waited for our food in the drive thru for 20 minutes -- with no one even manning the window (a large line built up behind us). Then, our order was missing several items -- even though we were charged and paid for them. Called and told we would be issued a refund in 5 days.... No refund. read more

This is the slowest Portillo's in existence. I've been to this particular Portillo's three different times hoping for a different experience given I love the Chicago Portillo's. At the Madison West location I sit in the drive thru for 25 minutes waiting to get my food..... And when I finally get my food, I find out my order is consistently incorrect and the food is consistently cold. Any of the Chicago Portillo's locations are great - food is fast, yummy, and piping hot. The Madison West Portillo's is a COMPLETE DISASTER..... The staff at this location has ZERO hustle and all are completely inept. Agree with another reviewer - the staff here needs some serious retraining. Corporate management should really look into this location... we will NOT be going back to the Madison Portillo's location EVER again! Such a HUGE disappointment!!! read more

Placed an order online at 7:03 PM. Got confirmation that said it would be delivered at 7:36 PM. At 7:50 PM, order not received. Called the restaurant to find out the status. Called DoorDash who said that the order had been delayed at the restaurant. Was then told the order has been picked up and would be delivered soon as the driver was in the area. We're five minutes away from the restaurant. Waited 10 minutes did not receive the food... At this point it's 45 minutes after it was supposed to be delivered. Called the restaurant to talk to the manager to find out what the delay was and explained that we would be down to pick up the order and that we wanted it remade. Was put on hold and then disconnected. Called a third time to speak with a manager who claimed that the order wasn't supposed to be delivered until 8:28 PM DoorDash driver showed up... Now an hour late... Food was cold. Returned the food. Drove down to the restaurant to place the order personally. The manager was very nice about everything. Got her food and they forgot the salad that we ordered. We called immediately to let them know, and they said that they would have a driver coming to deliver the food. I know it was 9:30 PM. We waited and then got a message saying the salad wouldn't be delivered till 9:58 PM. Then we got a notice saying that the order was modified or canceled so we called the restaurant and they said that they were waiting for DoorDash to pick up the salad. It is now 10:46 PM, and we still do not have a salad. read more

I love Portillo's food but have always used the drive through. On Friday a friend and I ate inside. Food was great but the music was way too loud. Couldn't have a good conversation and left with a headache. It was too hot for the patio. I won't go back unless it's cool enough to sit outside. read more

I had high expectations. There was an employee at the door who tried to engage me I conversation. I found this to be annoying. The place is nice. Clean and well staffed. I was surprised that a place that specialized In hot dogs only had 3 to choose from. I ordered a dog. Fries and a root beer. The fries were typical of any fast food place. The dog was small and tasty. Over all it's above average fast food. And on my way out the same employee tried to engage me again. I wont go out of my way to go back. In a word it was "ok" read more
