This lady was grumpy and it looked like she already put on her overtime. Maybe she did! But that was strike 1. The ladies in my team (1st meeting with them all) were cordial and polite, so nothing much to write about them, but I did met a new friend, or should I say an old friend . . . . so I have someone to sit & converse with. Here comes the manager of the food & beverage department, serving us. She smiled, when talking with us, but she wasn't smiling when she walked away. I don't expect someone to smile all day, like 100%, I don't. . . but the kind of reaction I was reading was . . . . her staff aren't there because of cut-backs. That kind of smile, so she's putting more hours. Probably another reason why the reception was 'grumpy? The manager, did gave me the drink I asked for, so that's a bonus. Now comes the food. There are many selections there to choose from. The oil & vinegar dressing was very, very thick. What makes oil & vinegar thick? Beats me! Cornstarch? Flour? Glue? LOL If I wanted thick dressing on my salad, I would have chosen Ranch or Thousand Island, maybe Blue Cheese? I was hungry, so I have no choice but eat all that I picked, plus a small slice of chocolate cake. Yum! One lady had very little on her plate, my rooster could eat that, and she's got good control if she was trying to lose weight. Or it was just not appealing to her. But why would anyone pay $9 for a buffet, if you're gonna eat like a rooster. My new friend tried their soup, she said it was VERY hot, but good. OK, now it's raining so hard. So I stayed a bit longer, but eventually I have to walk out back where I parked my car, but I don't like getting wet, not even for a spit. I asked the lady @ the front desk, if there was a back exit, and again, she was grumpy @ me, no smile, and the tone of her voice just shows she's now getting mad @ me. I also met up with the food & beverage manager, again . . . . and she pointed me where the bathroom was, but still no smile, like she had a lot in her mind. Was her job hanging by a thread, and overworked like all the rest of us? What ever the reasons, THEIR EMPLOYEES just doesn't have the hospitality one gets when they walk inside a room. UPDATE: I did an event here, and I can tell you how the people who lives here behaved, including their employees. SOMEONE must have read my 1st paragraph, because they now have a very friendly GREETER working behind the reception desk! Thanks for that! They are like a large family, they are helpful, friendly, and they have many people who are residents volunteer - getting more involved than other retirement facilities I've visited. They have activities to get them more involved, and as volunteers, you are part the 'community'. It's not like, you go out to have a meal, then go back to your room. Their gift shop are run by volunteers. Because of my observations, I will add another star!

When he was released from the hospital he needed intense physical therapy. He was in RIO for 8 days. When he got there he couldn't walk or stand by himself. When he left after 8 days he could do both with the help of a walker. His speech also improved greatly. The staff here is amazing! They take the time to get to know their patients and their families. They work one on one with each patient. They cheer them on with every milestone. You couldn't ask for a better place to help your loved one get the care they need. We didn't think he would be able to go to RIO as it wasn't covered by the crappy insurance we had at the time. But the doctors and staff at Providence worked their magic and by the grace of God he was able to get the best care I've ever seen! They also had 2 family "update days" while he was there. The staff and my family all got together around a very large table while they told us of his progress and what to expect next. If you ever need great Physical Therapy, fight for this great place! Update: 4-24-25 My husband is doing great! He can walk without his walker but with occasional use of a cane. His speech is near normal unless he's very tired. He's driving again and baking (favorite past time) up a storm. Going back to work is still a few months off but he'll get there. Our family and I are forever grateful!

I cannot say enough good things about the experience we had with RIO. My 89 year old father had a…read morestroke and was in ICU for nearly a week. His doctor over at Tualatin Meridian Hospital really wanted my dad to go to RIO but it was out of network. Some kind of miracle came through between the hospitals, doctors and insurance and he was approved and moved to RIO. Their reputation is the among the best with the hospital staff and doctors, so we were quite eager to have him go there. My sister is a retired PT with a doctorate and she really wanted him there too. My dad had to undergo 3 weeks of intensive therapy, from PT, OT to speech therapy. The improvements gained during his stay were nothing short of miraculous. He relearned to walk, swallow and gain use of his right hand while there, among many other small miracles. They trained him how to get out of bed and use the walker safely so he could go home instead of to the a nursing home or assisted care. He is happily home again with my mom. He has home health care and is seeing improvements every day. I think that every minute counts when it comes to strokes and the fact that he got in at the right time with the right care meant everything for his progress. My sister, who has a degree in PT and knows her stuff was super impressed with all the care and treatment. Hospital food it terrible, but we were allowed to bring in food so my dad could regain his strength, so that helped a lot. While dad was in ICU, no visitors were allowed because of Covid, but RIO allowed 3 visitors to come and go which meant my mom, sister and I, who live closest, were able to visit, which lifted his spirits. But, there's no place like home and he is home safe and sound and luckily on his way to recovery. The best part was when he got to ring a bell 3 times for graduating and the staff gathered and applauded. Still makes me very emotional. It is the most important graduation of our lives. My sister will be writing a Google review so you can read the more technical side of his experience. If you have a choice, I give RIO my highest recommendation. I think the staff are angels.

I've had several bad experiences at the Providence ER. The last time was especially bad. I had…read moreaccidentally taken the wrong amount of my medication and immediately went to the ER to seek help. Instead of calling poison control, I was rushed to the ICU where nurses spent all their efforts into convincing me that I had tried to harm myself. During this, I had four seizures before they decided to call Poison control to receive treatment instructions. Four seizures could have been prevented if they had called poison control immediately. I bit my tongue several times and bled profusely. They told me that my tongue will heal quickly, and refused to also treat that wound. It has not healed in almost a month. I had to see my primary care provider elsewhere to receive help. I felt neglected, as if they didn't really care. They weren't trying to treat me, but shove me in their mental health unit, when I had not tried to hurt myself. Their judgement of my character and actions was unwarranted and their actions felt harsh and punitive in nature. Eventually they called poison control and administered medication that would have effectively prevented this whole ordeal. I will never go back. All of the other hospitals in Portland are far better options with far better care that doesn't lack compassion and judgement by a very near sighted and uncaring staff. I am trying to not take this personal, and ruminate, but it was traumatic and embarrassing, and has led me to seek help in dealing with it. When he complained about not being able to sleep, and how much pain he was in, the nursed would ask him the same questions that another nurse had asked him the day before. Then we got a lot of "I'll leave a note for your doctor". It seems that the note never got left because we were told that several times about my Dads pain. He would occasionally go up to 11 hours without it. It was prescribed for every 6. So I asked for a list of his medications and the times that he is given them. I have medical power of attorney, so it seems easy enough. Nope! Not here. First I asked a woman at the front desk area, who refused to give me her name, and she told me I had to find his nurse.... Well, he was nowhere around my Dad's room, so I asked his CNA, Moreno. She told me that I had to ask his nurse. Like Im supposed to wander around the care facitly looking for his nurse. So I hit his call button. 25 minutes later, I timed it, Moren, his CNA came in. "I don't need you, I need his nurse", I said. He finally came in and asked the same questions and said he'd leave the doctor a note. Unbelievable. So I tried to contact 2 people in charge of his care, Debbie and Joyce. No one answered the number I was given by his nurse Jordan, and Debbie hasn't replied to my email. It's been over a week and still no response. I am beyond pissed off about this. I would tell anyone looking for a care facility, full-time or for recovery, to pass on this one. They obviously don't care much about their patients. And, sorry this is so long. If anyone from the facility would have called me back, I would have told them all of this in such less public way. Please! Pick the next one on the list...

I stated several times that I am allergic to cucumbers, and yet they were still in every salad (I ate a lot of salad because so much of the food was inedible.) They were short staffed, so I frequently waited up to 20 minutes for a CNA, not good when the meds give you diarrhea. Most of the staff gave it their best, but not all. One night an older woman (I presume a CNA) came in, bent over my bed and shook me angrily. I was stunned, but later figured out that she thought I was the woman crying, "Help me, someone please help me," on and off all night. Still no excuse for what she did, and she should be fired for patient mistreatment. I would NEVER allow a relative of mine to be here; they don't pay enough attention to what patients need, and at least one of the actually abused me. Unfortunately there is significant delay in initiating proper treatment, such as antibiotics, etc. In addition, treatment managers to not contact family members routinely nor do they give details of care, planning, testing, etc. prior to the group sit down. In some cases this can be a real challenge for the patient, who may need better communication due to hearing, visual limits etc. After release, we inquired about some dates of care via telephone x 3 to the care specialist, with No response. While at Village Rehab, my husband complained about the food, did not eat, and lost weight. So I tasted the "soup"....he was right. After returning home he has regained some weight and pursues regular meals, so it was not his illness.

Village Healthcare: An absolute NIGHTMARE of a rehab hospital…read more I just returned home after a two week stay there after knee surgery. This was the only place the hospital could find for my after care. Here goes.... 1) The FOOD; , if you can call it that, is provided by Sysco. Sysco is a enormous food manufacturer that churns out the cheapest and least nutritious food for hospitals and nursing homes that want to bring down their food budget to nothing. There's nothing like unidentifiable food on ones plate to show a loving and caring attitude for a patients healing process. These are manufactured meals of old slabs of meat re-heated, over cooked vegetables, goopy plop of something resembling rice or potatoes, nothing "green" in their supposed "green salad". I could go on. I went on a hunger strike, only eating the tiny cups of fresh fruit, bananas and some cereal. I dropped 12 pounds (in 10 days) just from sending the food back. I will include a picture. The food smells awful too. 2) The SMELL; though the place is fairly clean, they allow the whole staff to wear un-godly amounts of perfume of their choosing. Now, I use to be a CNA when I was in college, so I understand that the smell of old and sick people can get to you, but we were taught to put Vicks Vapor rub in our noses and just make do. We were NOT allowed to wear any kind of perfume-y anything. - I have migraines. The horrible perfume stink that the nurses brought in with them would linger in the room for hours triggering a constant migraine headache, which, of course, just added to the pain, nausea and dizziness I was already in (knee surgery is incredibly painful). I had to ask for the Vicks for myself to try and allay the nurses perfumes, and finally I had to go back to taking my migraine medication. 3) They LOST my medication. It was time for my pain medication one night and they kept trying to ignore my requests for it. Finally, after ringing for it the fifth time and then dragging myself out to the front desk, some CNA, who did not speak English well, finally let me know "they could not find any of my medication, including my pain meds"...!!! OMG! I was like "you can't FIND my medication?! The nurse responded by garbling something about it maybe being on another unit by mistake...! Meanwhile I was in desperate pain and no idea if they would ever find it. It took me having to call the hospital I had been transferred from to ask if they could transfer me out of there before the charge nurse ran over with some "emergency meds" to me and said" hang up the phone or we won't give you this medication"!! Wow! Pretty awful. I had made the decision to go to this after care hospital because I wanted to get up and moving safely, learning exercises that would heal me faster. I ended up spending very little time out of bed with any physical therapy at all. When I did see a physical therapist they were often rushed, not even bothering to let me know how many reps were involved in my exercises. All and all, this experience probably set me back a fair amount in my healing process, but was an excellent lesson on never going to one of these places again, not even if I'm dying.

I'm telling you this facility exceeded our expectations and more than satisfied with the services. The difference between Miracle Heights and the other facilities are the exceptional people that works here. They really care for their patients. So, if you really love your mom and dad, I highly recommend this facility because they treat your parents like their own. I don't think you can find a facility better than Miracle Heights. He wet the bed about midnight, asked the night staff if they could change his sheets. They refused. He had to sleep on the floor all night until the morning shift cam on and changed them for him.
