Are you hungry at Barcelona airport?
Have a little time to spare?
Have a little €€€ to spare as well?
If you answered Si to all of the above, look no further then Porta Gaig for your next culinary treat.
First off, let's face the fact that there aren't a whole lot of options here at the airport lounge. Sure, you could go the fast food route and grab a hamburger and fries, or something, but if you have a little time until your next flight, I'd say come here to steal one last moment of tranquility.
First off, know that this is an offshoot of Restaurant Gaig, an illustrious Michelin-rated restaurant in the center of Barcelona led by Carles Gaig. While I wouldn't expect food quality to be as good as the original, it is comforting to know that you can eat a meal made by people passionate about fine dining here at the airport.
Service is classy: the waiters wear suits, and for the most part treat customers like nobility. The menu contains a wealth of Catalonian specialties. There's a fixed price course, and also the option to order a la carte.
I used this opportunity to pick out a number of Spanish specialities that I'd missed out on during my trip here, which included:
-Suckling Pig, which was roasted perfectly, with a layer of fat and crisp skin, in a glaze that included strawberries and green onions
-Deconstructed Catalonian Creme, which was a modern take on the traditional dessert that was deliciously frothy, with a pool of tart lemon juice on the bottom and delicate ice cream in the center
The meal obviously cost more than fast food, but I was glad with my choice to eat here. This is your last chance to grab some fine, authentic Spanish food before leaving. Don't miss it! read more
