This is where I want to start my reports of the places I checked out during the recent trip to…read moreItalia. Why here? It was a discovery and a beautiful one! Meaning it was not known to me before, not recommended by anyone, I just came across it in a tiny hilltop town of Piemonte after a a long hike and on a gorgeous day.
Tired, hungry and thirsty we entered this little place, where not so friendly owner told us that he does not really serve food, just drinks and appetizers.
OK, not that much choice and the view is amazing, so we landed on the terrazza (terrace, overlooking the heavenly hills and planes).
Ordered some wine: Barolo seemed to heavy to me for a warm afternoon, so the owner suggested a local white, called Arneis ( hope I am spelling it correctly)-what a beautiful surprise it was, tasting like very subtle Californian Savignon Blanc, refreshing and soothing.
"I'll bring you what's available in the house", he said (vi porto, c'e l'abbiamo).
It was: fresh cherry tomatoes salad, white bean salad, tuna salad, procciutto crudo, salumi and the climax of it all was raw porcini mushrooms from the woods of Piemonte, sliced thinly and sprinkled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, just ever so slightly! Bread.
When we finished our feast I came up to the owner, who was by then my best friend and asked for the card to take it home and write a review. He was happy. As you see, I kept the promise.
