Large modern building with a couple of comfy rooms to hang out in including one with a (faux) fireplace that was lit! I ordered the vegetarian Caprese breakfast sandwich on a bagel that certainly didn't disappoint. Also ordered the hot matcha which was a tad sweet ... my bad and I should have requested unsweetened but it's totally acceptable. I would definitely be here often if I lived in the region. Altoona is lucky to have this marvelous "third place" right heere in the city. Plus added bonus is there's plenty of parking in their back lot.

I probably should've gotten a latte but as someone who loves sweet things I didn't foresee this being too sweet. The Clay Cup is a nice coffee shop located in downtown Altoona near the train station. It's got…read morequite a bit of charm with brick wall interiors, but there is a bit of a musty smell to the place. The place seemed to have a bit of an identity crisis with a separate pottery painting area in the back, but I suppose that's only practical to make multiple uses of the space given this historic core of Altoona seems to have fallen on hard times and doesn't have much going for it. The iced mocha (3.5/5) I got was decent with only minor hints of bitterness, but was otherwise quite average. I'm happy to round up as the service was pleasant and I'm happy to support a small local business. I'd recommend The Clay Cup to those looking for a decent coffee shop in downtown Altoona.

Similar to other locations, it has welcoming Americana theming throughout and signature blue tiles on the floor. We went with the cookies & cream and raspberry pistachio donuts. As opposed to my prior experience with Parlor Doughnuts where they were prepared fresh, this location seems to have prepped a supply earlier in the day with a selection on display available for purchase. Both were great donuts, but lacked the texture as you bit into them that I had with my prior experience that put the donuts in the "next level" category for me. They also didn't provide the signature donut boxes, as they simply handed us a bag when we asked for a to-go box. Service wasn't all that warm & friendly or quick here, but still an overall good donut experience for me such that I look forward to visiting Parlor Doughnuts on my future travels.

They have a older lady who manages sometimes, when she is working the time for food is unbelievable. I've seen people waiting 20 minutes for a kids meal. She is always bossing people around. One night I went for a couple ice creams. The younger lady made a cone. The can was a good size but nothing crazy. Manager told her to throw it away and make it smaller. And again with the second one. Throwing away two cones before having a man step in and make two of the smallest cones I've ever seen. Outside of that the staff is okay. Some are lazy and others do a good job. Most aren't happy as you'd expect in fast food. Outside of the older guys who flirt with the younger women. Inside is clean, odd shape but decent seating.
