I would like to share our recent experience with Porcupine paint as we had them paint the exterior of our home this past month.
We were excited to hire them due to their good reviews, with the exception of one strongly negative review.
Unfortunately, our experience was the opposite of the reviews we read and were hoping to leave as well.
Our experience was, overall, very negative as they could not be trusted due to their lack of clear communication and dishonesty. To begin, we were told that there would be extensive prep work done to ensure a high-quality product. Their crew did not power wash our house, they only power washed the ceiling by our front door to our knowledge. When we asked them if they had power washed the house, they said yes. We knew they did not because nothing was wet and a loose wasp nest was still barely hanging, and it clearly would have been knocked down by power washing. They then power washed the front of the house but still not the back. We had to ask again and walk around to make sure everything was power washed.
At this point, we did not trust the company and were having to "babysit" them for our whole project.
The following day when they came to paint, it was done very quickly. It felt very rushed. They allegedly did the rest of the prep work and painted our whole house in 1 day. I was suspicious of this speed and lack of quality so I spoke to our project manager and found out that they did not do the two coats of paint I was told we would get by Matthew, but instead they did two "overlapping wet" coats.
I am not an expert in the painting industry and don't want to become one. I believe they take advantage of people not knowing the industry and what specific questions to ask, so they mince and blur words to take advantage of our lack of knowledge. Kobi was the project manager and he came back the following day to do the second dry coat and was incredible to work with.
When we asked Matthew about the second coat of paint he guaranteed, he told my husband that "no painting companies in the area do two dry coats of paint." We found several companies that do and were told directly that there are companies that do. Once again, dishonesty.
The painting crew made so many drips and sloppy mistakes during painting. We had several drips of cream paint on our brown paint, paint spilled on our screens, corners of our beams not painted at all. We had to walk around to find several mistakes 2-3 times before it was done right. The crew clearly rushed our project, did not take pride in it and we are very disappointed. Kobi did do his part to make sure everything was taken care of before we paid the final bill.
One thing to note is Cole's Facebook post that claims they do not hire subcontracted painters, but that their painters are all in house. The painting crew never wore Porcupine shirts, but they wore different company shirts. When I asked Cole about this, he said that he did not know his marketing person posted this and told them to change the wording, I have not seen that wording change. Cole told me he takes pride in hiring painting subcontractors. I don't know what to believe, and once again, this does not feel like an honest company, but instead one that blurs communication and wording to take advantage of costumers and the situation.
I would caution anyone considering hiring Porcupine painting to get in writing clear communication of what you are getting, and make sure they deliver that product. I would not just trust them to do the project; I would definitely monitor every step to make sure it all gets done.
We will be having the interior of our house painted in January, and sadly, we won't be hiring porcupine for this project. read more
