Other then beef you get a few choices of chicken breast, sausage and mash and other pub fare as well as lamb and fish. Deserts range from ice cream to warmer deserts such as apple pie. During busy times service to your table is slow. The bar itself is quite well manned and you will get your drink quickly unless the bar is really busy. There's a wide selection of drinks from spirits to soft drinks. If it's a nice night you can also choose to sit out by the river and enjoy yourself in style.

It's a good size, the staff were friendly (a rare thing in Rainham!) and best of all, it was just 2 minutes walk from our house. The Thai restaurant attached to the Pub was also pretty decent and a great place for a meal before a night of drinking. A little history of the building is that the building itself was built in the 14th century making it one of the oldest buildings in Rainham and during the building of the home next door a passageway was discovered that ran all the way from the cellar to the Church. It's also common knowledge with locals that it once was a coaching house. So if you're in the area looking for a decent place to drink The Green Lion is top of my recommendations. They also hold a late license on weekends (Friday and Saturday) where after 11pm the entrance is at the back of the building next to the beer garden.

We wound up sitting outside even though it was a bit chilly and we were directly downwind from some smokers. Things eventually cleared out and my wife and I found a table inside. They apologized for it, but they only served beer in plastic when we started drinking even when we bought over £50 bottles of rare Beligan lambic. That said, they have the goods. They had a great little food truck with good burgers and they have the beer. I started with a Tilquin cherry lambic that was on tap and I'd never had before that was spectacular while my wife had an Other Half IPA which we love in the states, but is harder to find in the UK. Sours, stouts, lambics, IPAs, DIPAs, wheat beers, fruit beers, porters, milds, you name it. From all around Europe and the US. Prices range from totally affordable to paycheck burning. But if you buy one of the £45 bottles of bourbon barrel aged imperial stout brewed with peanuts and Canadian maple syrup and oats and coffee and cacao nibs all sealed in wax, you can be sure it'll be worth it. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Ask for tasters before deciding at the bar. If you work locally, you're eligible for a small discount upon paying. Ambience is usually chill across the inner and outside tables. Sometimes it gets totally slammed and loud and there's nowhere to sit so be ware. Not a beer drinker? No problem. There is a reasonable ca park as it gets quite hard to park in the summer. I have visited for lunch and dinner and both were very nicely presented and well cooked. The skate is very tasty and the scampi and Jenga chips are good. The costs can be a little bit higher for lunch but the menu is very similar and therefore for dinner, I thought it was quite reasonable. Peter who used to be at another Billericay restaurant is the restaurant manager and as normal makes sure we get well looked after.
