Very disappointing. On arrival at The Moat we waited 10 minutes before a quite grumpy woman (who I assumed was the manager) told us that we could only have a table in the bar or garden although we could see a number of empty tables in the restaurant. We were told to take our menu from the side table which we did and took a table in the bar. The table had not been cleared even though no one had been seated there all the while we were waiting to be seated. There were still dirty glasses and used sauce packets on the table which stayed there until I had to ask the grumpy woman if it could be cleaned while my husband went to order the food at the bar. "Yeah 2 seconds" was her response. She then came and took the glasses and cleaned the table herself so I can only assume they did not have enough staff and was probably the cause of her bad mood. My husband said we were to get our own cutlery from the side board but there was none in the trays so my daughter took some from the laid up tables in the restaurant area. The food arrived... Umm not great. The burger was supposed to be in a brioche bun but it was just an ordinary burger bun, the chips were hard and not very hot. I ordered blue cheese dip to go with my steak but when it arrived it was not very blue cheese flavoured and I though I had been given the garlic sauce instead as it was very garlic flavoured. The waitress apologised and took it back to the kitchen. She returned to say that it was the correct sauce but the blue cheese sauce does have garlic in it. My steak was tough and I still think it was not the correct sauce but we ate our meals anyway. It was edible but not great. No one came to see if we were ok or if we needed anything more so as my husband had paid when he ordered we got up and left. We will not be going back as we did not enjoy the experience and felt like we were an inconvienence. read more
