The exam was relatively quick and painless (even for me, who absolutely can't stand having stuff touch his eyes). Having air blown into your eye is an interesting experience though! I had the basic dilation exam, and Dr. Byers clearly explained everything and answered my questions easily. Though I am from out of town I definitely recommend their practice and will definitely use them again if I'm in the area! My dry eye problem was improved to the point I was able to have my cataract surgery. I had cataract surgery on both eyes over a 2 week period (community care referred from the VA). It was the most positive experience that I have ever had in a medical environment. I saw staff and doctors in both the Hot Springs and Little Rock clinics and the Little Rock Surgical Center. Everyone I came in contact with showed extraordinary professionalism, compassion and such a personal feeling of attentiveness. Concerning Experience and Pressure for Unnecessary Surgery…read more I had a two‑hour exam here in December 2025, and the experience left me very uneasy. Despite having a large office, there were no ophthalmologists on site. After the exam, I was told I had "severe" nuclear cataracts and needed to have both lenses removed urgently -- before Christmas -- and that I would have to travel to Little Rock because they had no ophthalmologists locally. I was also told LASIK wouldn't work and that the surgery was invasive, which added to the pressure. The urgency they pushed did not feel right, so I requested my records and sought a second opinion. They initially refused to send my records to the ophthalmologist in my own town, and the doctor there had to call them himself to get them. My second exam (also two hours) showed something very different: only mild cataracts that are completely normal for my age, excellent eyesight, and absolutely no need for surgery. The ophthalmologist told me, "If it isn't broken, we're not going to fix it." Based on my experience, I felt pressured toward an unnecessary and invasive procedure. I encourage anyone who receives an alarming diagnosis here to get a second opinion.

Honest, Thorough, and Trustworthy Care…read more I saw this ophthalmologist for a second opinion after another clinic told me I needed urgent cataract surgery. He spent a full two hours examining my eyes and reviewing the records he had to personally request from the first clinic. His assessment was completely different -- and far more reassuring. He explained that I have only mild cataracts, actually fewer than most people my age, and that my eyesight is very good. He told me plainly that nothing warranted surgery and that I should just use readers when needed. I appreciated Dr. Jeff Holt's (and staff's) honesty, his calm approach, and the fact that he didn't try to push any unnecessary procedures. It's rare to find a doctor who takes the time to explain everything clearly and prioritizes what's truly best for the patient. I'm very grateful I went to him.
