But it's not just the joy of scoring myself what is essentially a one-of-a-kind outfit, it's the joy of finding a *bargain*. Discovering a designer leather jacket for only $200? Priceless. And this is where my beef lays with Monkey Jar. They've got heaps of stuff, in particular some really fun one-piece bathing suits (that would look awesome as a top with jeans), however there isn't a bargain to be found! There are both men's and women's clothing available in store, however the ladies section certainly dominates, and is well-worth a hunt through if vintage clothing is your thing. But unfortunately everything seems dramatically over-priced and the quality just doesn't match.

Shag stocks truly one-of-a-kind vintage, over the top jumpsuits, platform heels that will add inches and costume jewellery galore. It's like Lady Gaga exploded in here. They are famous for their impressive window displays. Every time I walk past and see a mannequin in a bright yellow spandex play-suit I think; "Would that look good on me, or are these guys just really good at what they do?" One time I decided I would try on something in the display and was more than willing to pay the $200+ price tag it held. When I asked the sales staff they said; "We'll put you on the waiting list to try on the outfit. Come back in a week." Yep. There's a waiting list to try some stuff on. Wow. Needless to say I didn't want it that much, and didn't bother coming back in a week. It's a gorgeous store (as are it's sisters in the city and on Chapel Street) so do pop in and check one out if you get the chance, just don't dare to ask about the window display.

Somewhere also has a very decent selection of shoes and accessories, like hats, ties, sunglasses and scarves. There's also a really terrific range of cards with funny slogans and cute pictures, some of which have a local twist. A lot of the jewellery is pretty distinctive, such as necklaces made out of old spoons and retro pendants. On the whole, it's basically the kind of store where you can't know what you're going to find in there on any given occasion, just that it'll be something special.
