After a nice walk in Torino on a chilly, rainy day, this was the perfect spot. Poormanger is one of my brother's favorites, and we picked it for dinner because it's cozy, casual, and the early fall weather called for baked potatoes and a nice beer.
The restaurant is beautiful, with a warm, relaxed atmosphere and a nice light. It's located in the historical district of Torino, right between City Hall and the Royal Palace. This is what my brother and I had (see picture for reference):
- potato with gorgonzola, radicchio, and sausage: simply delicious. Perfect balance of creamy cheese, slightly bitter radicchio, and tasty sausage. Typical combination from Northern Italy.
- potato with herb-marinated salmon, sour cream, and arugula. I wasn't totally convinced on this one because the combination of the cold salmon and warm potato didn't work super well. Maybe it's my p
- chinotto by Lurisia: Italian soda made with a citrus from Southern Italy - you have to try it!
- Super by Baladin brewery - craft amber beer
It was a very pleasant dinner, table service was great and all the staff was very courteous. The atmosphere is very comfy, service is fast, and yet nobody rushes you to finish and leave. Very nice!
Update from November 4, 2019: went to Poormanger again on a cloudy, chilly day, and it was just the perfect comfort food! I like the fact that they have seasonal options. This time, my friend and I got:
-Mushrooms, fondue and Prosciutto di Parma
-Scamorza, caramelized leeks, speck, and walnuts. read more
