I reserved a pontoon boat here because it's significantly cheaper than renting one on Geneva Lake…read more When I made the reservation I was quoted $250 for four hours plus $10 if we wanted to put it on a credit card. Ok, great. We were told to meet at Delavan Community Park. We arrived to find out that there was a $3/person entry fee and that some boat companies covered this but ours did not. Would have been nice to know just to be sure we had enough cash. We proceeded into the park and were approached by a woman who had the waiver to sign and said the boat would be there shortly. I'm not sure who she was, but she was a bit snippy. Just to make things easer I had planned to use a credit card. However, when I tried to hand it to her she told me that the credit card fee was $10 per hundred, so $25. Uh, what? Already being up $18 because of the entrance fee, some of our group headed off in search of an ATM. When the boat and Brian (I think) arrived. He then confirmed that it was $5/hundred. Annoying. So they loaded up our coolers and whatnot before heading to the boat launch. The woman was on the boat and was saying they had to take "all that stuff off" and that some "clients had left their stuff on the boat" It was two large coolers (one of which was never taken off the boat) and two tow-behind tubes. Someone left all of that there? Doubtful. So we got the boat in the water, received a tutorial in boating and were getting ready to leave when they took the ladder away since they didn't think we'd be getting in the water. Despite the cooler temps, we still planned to swim. Then they informed us that the ladder didn't actually work with the boat, and if someone wanted to go in, someone else would have to pull them back on the boat. What? Ridiculous. This actually deterred a few people in our group from swimming, which was half the point of renting the boat. Using the cool weather as an excuse was BS, it was originally supposed to be 90 that day. What would they have told us then? He also made it sound as if the other ladder had just broken and this was the replacement, but we couldn't find anyplace where a ladder ever seemed to have been attached. We got to our first stop, dropped anchor and hung out for a bit. When we decided it was time to move on. We had trouble starting the boat. We've rented boats before and never had an issue. When Brian was giving the tutorial he mentioned something about setting one of the buttons for us but didn't really say what it was. Eventually we did figure it out. Also, there was a piece of trim that kept popping off and had rusty screws sticking up underneath it. Shortly after we took of with the boat one of the cupholders flew out of the boat. When we returned it, the woman made a stink about as if we'd thrown all the seat cushions overboard. Luckily, he was more laid back and said it was fine. Because the boat wasn't actually docked at the lake, when we returned we had to hang out and wait for them. They were on time, but we were a few minutes early and not being avid boaters it was a bit tricky for us to stay where we needed to be and out of the way of other boats. When we were pulling in they asked us to loosen some ropes that were fastened to the boat, then the woman proceeded to tell my friend he was doing it all wrong. There are at least two other places in the area with comparable rates, and given the issues we had - largely the rude woman and ESPECIALLY the ladder - I feel that I would try another place next time.

Absolutely horrible experience. Beware!! First Brian and his wife were a half hour late getting…read morethe boat out for our trip. No offer of reimbursement for the lost time charged us full rate anyway. Boat in dreadful, and would safe unsafe working condition. Stalled out on us 50 feet from dock when returning the boat. Had to be towed in. This was late in the evening so we were lucky to have a fisherman tow us in. Brian on the phone was not helpful. Saying only that it was too far for him to swim to us. Had to throw anchor in water to present us from hitting the shoreline. When we returned from our tow Brian and his wife complained the boat was dirty with seaweed!!! Seaweed brought up from the anchor we had just used!!! No apology. Just said the battery was dead. That could have easily happen to our family while on the lake. Use caution with these people!!!! For the sake and safety of my family I will never rent with them again!!!

I think one hour is probably my limit on a boat, but I was on a group trip that was planned without my input, and I ended up on a cruise that was 2.5 hours. And I didn't find that out until I was seated and we were about to set sail. OK! I was in a dilly of a pickle, but it all turned out fine in the end. But the last 1.5 hours could have not existed and I would have been fine, to be honest. The first 45 minutes of my cruise were action-packed, though! I took the U.S. Mailboat Tour, which took us around Lake Geneva to some of the mansions on the lake that had mailboxes at their docks. I guess mail is still delivered this way, and Lake Geneva is one of the only places in the United States that has this kind of mail delivery. It was fun to see the mail jumpers leap off of the boat and onto the docks to quickly put mail into the mailboxes, all while the boat is moving forward. The mail jumpers have no time to stop -- they have to keep it pushing in order to jump back on the boat! I only saw one person eat it during our cruise, which I think is good. You can sit on the boat deck, which gives you the best views, but it's hella windy, and depending on the weather, can be cold. There's also seating below, which is protected from the elements. There are two restrooms on board, as well as a bar. At first, when I entered the boat and saw the bar, I thought that was weird that there was a guy behind a counter slinging alcoholic drinks. But once I set sail on a 2.5-hour journey, I understood. You need a little something, sometimes. The U.S. Mailboat Tour is very cool and a great way to learn more about Lake Geneva. I do think it could have been 1.5 hours shorter, but I'm an editor, and I'm always looking for ways to tighten things up. I think if you are kid-free and have a little drink (or two) in your hand, then a 2.5-hour cruise might suit you more.

The service was amazing, super sweet employees. The Santa cruise was a perfect amount of time and the set ups across the lake were spectacular. The story that went along with each light set up was so cute! My daughter was so excited when Santa said her name was on the nice list. The only thing I wish I knew was the left side of the boat is the place to be... we were on the right side and our window was facing the middle of the dark lake.

The Christmas Wonderland building you go to before the cruise was OK; a few displays you could take photos with and a ton of raffle items you could purchase raffle tickets for. We were rushed by staff to get into line even though we had hoped to stop by the bar first. After standing there for a while, my husband decided to go to the bar anyways and he still had 10 minutes to spare before we were rushed to the boat so I'm not sure why we were rushed. Pro tip; sit on the port side of the boat (left side) to see all the lights and decorations. We unfortunately didn't know and grabbed seats on the starboard side and had to strain to see everything. When we stopped at Santa's cabin, he came out and read off all the children's names, which was super cute to hear the kid cheering when they heard their name. It was a very quick ride, less than an hour round-trip and honestly the boat moved faster than the guide could tell us about all the light displays so that was a little disappointing, but overall it was a nice time. Dress warm, as the boat is heated but still pretty chilly. Also, the treat they advertise for the kids is the tiniest candy cane you'll ever see; probably not worth them advertising at all.

I wanted to try Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) for about forever…read more The concierge at the Abbey gave me a coupon for a discount rental at nearby Fontana Paddle so I decided to finally give it a go. It was an excellent decision. Rates are reasonable. They fit you with a flotation vest, changing rooms are available and they have small lockers. You do not want to have your smartphone on you in the event you fall in the water on the lake. It is better to lock it up, IMO. The training overview was pretty detailed and there is a lot to remember and coordinate all at once. I liken it to riding a bike or driving a car. Once you learn it, you'll always have it and it becomes normal/natural, until then, you have to remember to switch hands, stay balanced, etc. I did go out too far from where they told me to stay, but that was unplanned. A little wind and then a boat sent me even further out which resulted in my instructor dude coming out on board to see if I was okay and if I could get back in on my own. Embarrassing, but also super cool because he gave me some on water tips that I somehow already had forgotten. Also, the further out you go, the more the wind affects you and there are more boats, so you can expend more energy on balancing rather than paddling enjoyably along. Once my guy knew I was okay and headed more in the right direction he went back and I went on to a very enjoyable experience. Prices are good. Staff is helpful. Get out early on summer weekends, too many boats on the lake will not make for a good SUP experience.
