The teachers are experienced, caring, and genuinely invested in each child's growth--academically, spiritually, and socially. It was based on what I saw with my own eyes. I witnessed Mrs. Morgan yank a first grader by the back of his hoodie and yell at him to sit down. I witnessed her grab another student by the arm and push him to the ground during a class field trip. I witnessed her publicly embarrass a student in front of his peers, telling him he doesn't listen. These were not secondhand accounts. These were direct observations. Additionally, when I brought a serious concern to administration regarding a student telling my son she "didn't like Black people," the issue was minimized rather than meaningfully addressed. That was deeply concerning. You may state that investigations were conducted and documentation exists, but my experience as a parent was that my concerns were not handled with transparency, accountability, or care. Instead of focusing on defending reputations, I would hope the school would focus on reflection and correction. You consistently teach Christ-like love and character. My experience did not reflect those values in practice. This was my lived experience. Dismissing it as a difference in "perspective" does not change what I saw or how it was handled. The school has great teachers and I don't understand this person saying otherwise but it doesn't sound like they were here long enough to get a good feel for this school. Most the kids my sister and cousin graduated with started Emerson in preschool/Kindergarten and stayed to graduate high school and went on to great colleges. We enrolled him, paid a ton of money for registration and materials fees, and he started class last week. After the second day, the teacher told us that he would probably have to move to Pre-K because he can't sit still for a long time. It was surprising since they already evaluated him to be part of the Kindergarten, but we were fine if that were to happen. A few days later we meet with the evaluation board and teacher expecting for him to move classes, but instead, they tell us that they're kicking him out of the school entirely! Their reasoning was that they thought "something is wrong with him and he should be diagnosed with ADD". Let me count the ways the reasons they get 1 star: 1) For educators to tell someone that "something is wrong with your child" is extremely inappropriate. 2) Any educator that assume that a child has ADD after only a couple days of observation should not be allowed to teach. Our child has been to pre-school and we have a number of teachers and doctors in our circle of friends and family, and not one person has ever expressed any concern about his behavior. 3) They were not even willing to put him in a different class to see if that is a better fit for him. Their exact words were "there is no place for your son here". I'd think any school dedicated to a child's growth and education would TRY to adjust to help a child, not just shut him out. 4) They were not willing to give him more time to adjust to the new environment. Any person with a child or works with them knows that there's a period of adjustment needed for kids to adapt to new things...they completely disregarded this fact If we had been the type of parents to immediately trust these people and assume he has a problem, this could severely impact his life. Some parents would have put him on medication, enrolled him in schools for learning disabilities, etc., when really he is just a normal little boy. To top it off, they are now giving us the runaround now that we trying to get a refund for the $1000+ fees that we paid to enroll him. We were so excited for our child to go to this school, but now we are of the opinion that it's some sort of scam and are deeply regretting it.

All Irvine public schools have health rooms and health staff on campus. Stupid me -- I assumed that at the very least this so-called private school would have such a fundamental facility and staff. But no. Today I found out there's no health office and no sick room where a child can at least lie down for a while until a parent arrives. I'm in shock. What kind of risky, scammy school have I put my child into for the past 3 years? This campus just spent a lot of money on expansion and also raised tuition fees. It's ridiculous to find out that behind all those price increases and fancy upgrades, no one seems to care about students' health -- and none of that money appears to have gone toward improving health support for the kids. No health office. Not even one health staff member. Not even a sick room for students to rest. -- In response to your reply: Thank you for reminding me -- although your non-medical staff determined (since there is no health clerk or school nurse on campus) that "it's better to remain in an upright position in a chair, while ensuring attentive care and comfort," when I arrived, my pale six-year-old child was kneeling on the ground, coloring on a piece of paper and using a wooden bench next to the reception desk as a flat surface. There is no health clerk. The temporary reception teacher was busy with her own duties. I did not see any "assured attentive care and comfort." Instead, I observed teachers who appeared reluctant to be involved, likely because without a designated health staff member, temporarily caring for a sick child simply adds to their already full workload. Where is the "bed" or the "attentive care and comfort" you mentioned? All I saw was a small, cold wooden bench near the reception area, with people walking around. Considering the level of tuition families pay, our children deserve more than this. Three different staff members confirmed to me yesterday that there is no bed available for a sick student. Therefore, the only way I was able to learn that such an option supposedly exists was through a Yelp review. Reality is reality. Parents, please do your research before sending your child to a so-called private school: * Is there a health room or a designated sick resting area -- like those available in Orange County public schools? * Is there a school health clerk available on campus -- as in Orange County public schools? * Do teachers even know whether the so-called "bed for sick students" actually exists? Despite the amount of money families invest in a private school that lacks even fundamental health support, it is worth considering whether the absence of a basic health office or a health clerk could place students at greater risk in certain situations.
