Hello Everyone ! I am not a rec parent, but a rec aunt! My nephew is a 15 year old boy on one of…read morethe senior boy teams! The championship was today! My sister-in-law is not a fellow yelper but I'm going to help her right this review! The first thing I want to point out is it they told everybody about the championship location the day of. At 10 am. I mean it could be better could be worse‍ just the lack of organization is kind of annoying! Also the championship game was originally for yesterday, 8/7, where mostly everyone, not including myself, but including my nephew, were going to the Zach Bryan Concert at the Linc so fun! I'm glad they decided to reschedule the game so the boys could have fun ! My sister-in-law and I decided to watch the girls game! I wish we did not come to the decision....my first thought is the Hot Pink team was on fire amazing! But then I heard that one of the players is a full time travel team player? What?! This is a recreation league! I really don't remember her name or number I'm sorry all I know is that she made every shot besides 2 the whole game. By half time is was 5-30. I was talking to a girl in the bleachers who used to play. I was wondering if it has always been like this....she said "Absolutely not. At least when I was in intermediate girls. I used to stroll off the beach in a wet bathing suit throw my jersey on on top, put on a pair of Lulu Lemon shorts and walk in with my hair wet. I didn't want to play this year because of how competitive it is." I don't know if the quote on quote directed knows this but...The goals of the Recreational (REC) basketball Divisions are to provide the highest quality fun, positive learning environment for basketball skill and personal character development. Not for a college recruit playing against someone who's there to have fun. It simply isn't fair ‍ If you are playing in a high school team or a travel team go play with your own skill level !! Let the other kids have fun!!! No parent should let their kid do that. They are ruining the game for everyone else!!!!! Then I was told the coach and one of the players are siblings...kind of weird, but okay! Then they told me the sister is a COACH. Are you kidding ??? She also started hysterically crying when she got fouled which is fully pathetic. Your around all your co-workers. Grow up. Also we need those what they call refs to read a rule book because the calls are bizzare! I saw one boy put his hand around another player's neck! Ugh it is so sad how these games have changed. My sister-in-laws kids are not returning !!! MIGHT I ADD ITS 250 DOLLARS AND THE COACHES KEEP THE SAME KIDS IN THE WHOLE GAME. I understand they are college/high schoolers but come on!!! Rec leagues are supposed to be enjoyable ! I hope they get a new director and new coaches because we are at the beach !! We should have fun !!!

I came from one of UCs where the gym is fabulous so my bar is super high. To be honest, I was…read moreextremely disappointed when I visited. Well later I learned this is the best of all five in New Brunswick campus. The following are the reasons why it's such a disappointment to me: 1. I'm a morning person and prefer to workout first thing of my day, yet gym only opens at 7am which is already not early. On top of it, it changes hour to 8am, or 9am, sometimes to 11am during breaks or summer. sometimes won't open at all. If you're serious about training like me, you must be familiar that consistency is key. Yet the schedules make me think the gym is against morning people. 2. The layout of fitness room is a train wreck to be honest. Machines are way too close to each other. One can be in other people's way even when working out. It's not just inconvenient, it's actually DANGEROUS. Plus, there's only ONE machine for each exercise. The whole fitness room probably has the size of two decent parking garage. Which is WAY too tiny given the number of people on campus. 3. The whole building is POORLY designed. The parking lot is on the opposite side of the building so you get extra walk because of poor design. Another thing is, the building size looks decent yet it has so tiny space for fitness room. 4. The power lifting room is okay. It only has 4 squat racks and 2 deadlifts platforms. Not even 1/3 of my previous gym. But surprisingly, not many people use them anyway so it's good. There's always a space when I go to in the morning. So two stars are for the power gym. 5. The swimming pool looks great but I don't swim that much so the star doesn't include swimming. To summarize, if you use the gym mainly for lifting, you can go and get work done but don't expect too much more. My star might be biased cuz I've seen one of the best. But it's good for those who never have seen better because they won't have as much disappointment as I have.

I'm at Rutgers year round as a graduate student working on Busch Campus. When I have time to work…read moreon my fitness, it's usually at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center. This building is kind of strangely built. They have the main door to the gym all the way around the opposite side of the building from the parking lot. This is really annoying when it's rainy or cold or snowy and you have to walk around the needlessly long poorly designed path. The parking lot itself is way too tiny, especially when they open the gym up to high school swim meets and other special events. The way it's designed is also poor, since the positioning of the isles creates a bunch of blind turns. I've seen a few accidents here over the past few years. Once you're inside, they also insist on swiping your RUID badge when you walk in, which can get irritating. They have an Olympic sized pool which looks pretty nice. The general gym weight equipment area is way too small for the number of students/staff that are on this campus. They have rooms for spinning and racquetball as well. There are a bunch of classes you can take at the gym. They are quite cheap for Rutgers staff/students but it's sort of insulting that they aren't put into the tuition in the first place. Most of the classes are enjoyable though. I especially like the spin classes and RUFIT (which is kind of a mixed stations work out class). I just wish they had more classes later in the evening. The gym closes at 9pm and there are larger stretches of the year where it isn't open at all for breaks an things. The scheduling is inconsistent and always changing which can get confusing sometimes.

One area is a little bit better for smaller kids so it's nice that they have two different options. The best part about the splash pad is the reservation system. You must make a reservation online, and you have a 1.5 hour time slot. Splash pads can get packed on a hot day, so this was a great way to control the crowd. Once your time is up there's an enormous playground right next door. There is so much to see and do that you could easily spend hours here without getting bored. Overall this is a fantastic township recreation area. It's clean and well-maintained, and there are endless play options for kids.

The trails are perfect for walking your furry dogs, in-line skating, cycling, easy walking and pushing strollers. There is also a repair station with a tire pump and tools found near the basketball courts. The Challenger Place has finally finished and is a designed playground for kids who are blind or visually impaired. Their sport courts include tennis and basketball courts, as well as an in-line skating rink. The athletic field is available for rental and may be used for baseball games but not for practices. I have heard they have swimming pools but I personally did not see it. Instead, I saw a spray ground (water-enhanced playground) which was to open in mid-May but given our current situation with the COVID-19 outbreak, this is doubtful for mid-May 2020 due to the pandemic restrictions. Normally, it would open mid-May through early September. I would imagine the busiest time to be there with kids is during the height of summer because summer camps are held there by the Monmouth County Park System and Challenged Youth Sports from Middletown.
