This is a great Park for families and kids. This park is full of open fields for sports, sand box, large playground for the kids, and seating all around for adults. I believe there is also water activities, but we mainly stayed by the playground. We went on a Saturday afternoon to bring our daughter for some fun. It was incredibly busy and packed with kids and adults. Some chose to bring foldable chairs and sit right in the middle of everyone and some chose not to watch their kids, but it was a great time other than that. Plenty of parking and space for the kids made this a great afternoon stop for our daughter and family. The Park is extremely easy to find as well. I hope you all check it out for some afternoon fun in the sun.

COLTS NECK: Dorbrook Recreation Area is a beautiful park with over 2 miles of paved walking paths. Brie loved exploring the trail on a picturesque autumn day. You can see the Swimming River Reservoir from various points on the trail and doggie bags are provided. It's so nice spending time outside without the humidity!

Nice place to spend the afternoon with the family.

The playground and splash area was so much fun for my 2yr old. There is a fun little sand pit in the playground area. I recommend bringing some buckets and pails for both the sand and water play area. I saw a few kids who didn't have their own looking forlorn. The playground equipment is in pretty good condition with some interesting activities. The sprinkler area was great but several of the sprinklers were defunct. Hopefully they will be repaired for next summer. We went on a Monday afternoon and there was ample parking. It was a really hot sunny day so all the shady benches were taken but if you have your own blanket or chairs you can find a tree to relax under. There is also a snack shack between the restrooms and sprinkler area.

A water break from hiking the trails

Beautiful park! Great for people of all ages and abilities. There are multiple trails for bikers,…read morejoggers, people with strollers, walkers and kiddos. Deeper into the park there is a lake where people bring canoes! I love that this park has so many layers. Even when there are many people there, using the playground, hanging out at the lake, hiking, etc., it feels like you're all alone because there are so many spots for people to be! It never feels crowded like other parks which make me feel like there was no point in going (I go to escape crowds!). It can get a little swampy after the rain, so wear suitable shoes. I slid down a hill once and my shoes saved the day. Lots of winding trails and water views, so bring a camera!

This park is simply elegant and an oasis away from the world. Thompson had a long career of political activism and public service on behalf of prison reform, public health and juvenile justice in New Jersey, and was a generous benefactor of psychiatric services and college scholarships for the needy. Geraldine Thompson was active for many years in the state's Republican Party, and, in 1923, became the first female New Jersey delegate to a Republican National Convention. She shared a great many social welfare interests with her lifelong friend, Eleanor Roosevelt. During her later life she played an influential role in preserving Island Beach as a state park, and promoted the conservation of wildlife habitat. This park is a truly fitting monument to this woman's memory, and it is thankfully a treasure which the public can utilize for recreation and the elevation of everyday life.

It allows for all sorts of activities in a compact 71 acre space. This is also a great spot to view the fall foliage. There are 2 entrances. The main entrance is off Pond Rd. There is a side entrance off Robertsville Rd but that parking lot can accommodate only about half a dozen cars. A typical walk is a round trip from between the 2 entrances and you'll rack up about 2 miles. There is an excursion trail around the outside boundaries of the park beginning at the Robertsville entrance. With that you can make up 3 miles which was what I used to do when I was training for the varsity cross-country team. The pond is good for boating and fishing and is stocked with trout every year. The playground is right by the pond and is a great photo spot for your kids. There is a stage and a nice-sized pavilion in front of it. Perfect for a summer concert or play. There are benches and picnic tables throughout. In my most recent visit (Oct'21) I was pleasantly surprised to find that they've added a large number of brand new benches and picnic tables made with recycled material. Also, the parking lot at the main entrance has been redone and doubled the capacity. For these surprises I'm bumping the rating up to 5 stars. PS. If you're into mountain biking, I'll let you in on a local secret. There is a technical course adjacent to the southeast side of the park and you can access it at the end of Brookwood Dr.

There is something for everyone to enjoy here. Bring your canoes or kayaks. There is a boat launch near the entrance. You can fish here, the lake is stocked with fish. We have yet to catch anything but plants and a snapping turtle. There is a nice trail along the lake to walk or bike. There is a little playground too but this is probably the worst maintained area of the park. There are no bathrooms here but there are porta potties. Every time I've been here when it's warm the ice cream truck has come in here. Other than that there are no concession stands. Just pack a lunch and enjoy at one of the picnic tables.
