The sauce-to-cheese ratio tilted too much to the sauce, which was also too sweet for my taste. The mixed fries (half regular and half spicy) were very very good. I've been cautiously investigating the options near my office, and this to me is the best pizza I've found in the vicinity though honestly it's not that amazing. We've ordered delivery from here once, and I also stopped in earlier this week for a lunchtime sit-down experience. I like their set-up in here - it's very clean, spiffy and spacious. It's directly connected with the Evergreen kosher supermarket, so it's easy to overlook if you're not a regular patron over here. When I came in, I appeared to be the only non-Orthodox on the premises, and I imagine that would be the case most of the time - that said, I didn't feel like an outsider (there are a few places around here admittedly where I have) and the people behind the counter were perfectly pleasant and accommodating. There are quite a few self-serve kiosks to order from, enough where I initially assumed you couldn't order face to face with anyone. I confirmed that wasn't the case after the fact, but the kiosks WERE easy to use. For what it's worth, I've noticed at a few of these kosher establishments that there seem to be an unusually high number of self-serve options; not sure if that's coincidental or not. Regardless, doesn't hurt to have an additional choice if needed. This is not my go-to type of pizza - I'm a snobbier Neapolitan wood-fired or hipster Detroit style creature by and large and it's unusual for me to take a liking to a mainstream, cheaper slice. The visual was the initial selling point here. I like that the typical slice here appears to be slightly well done, which is my preference. Not only that, I think this is the only time I've specifically been given the choice of selecting well done as an option when ordering. Nice touch. It would have been stunning if this had been an issue, but predictably my order was ready to go within about two or three minutes after being heated up. The pizza itself is fine. Its weakest point is the sauce, which is noticeably and way too sweet, and the crust is a bit too chewy/doughy. I do at least like the consistency of the sauce for the most part - I do NOT like chunks in the sauce, and this was pretty smooth though I did take out a few slices of tomato skin (I guess that would be the term?). The cheese is the star here as far as I'm concerned, especially since it is a little burnt on the top, which to me adds a nice little flavoring zip. The neighboring supermarket has a reputation for being very overpriced - I actually wandered in to get a coffee afterwards and my jaw almost fell on the floor at some of the prices of the Hanukkah chocolate - but the price point within the pizza place is very decent. I think each of my slices was about $3.75 or so, which in this environment you'll likely take any day. You could do worse than Pies N' Fries.

I recently had a TERRIBLE experience at Evergreen, and I will NEVER step foot inside there again…read more I am a regular customer that shops at Evergreen several times a week. Customer service was never been Evergreen's strong point, they now reach an all-time low of customer DISservice and outright aggression. Horror story: After shopping at Evergreen for shabbat on Thursday night, my family and I bought food from the hot tables and salad bar to eat in the seating area. I slung my shoulder bag over the back of my seat, and it must've fallen under the seat, and accidentally I left it there. Soon after getting home I realized that I didn't have my bag. I went back to the store and searched the area, found nothing. I then asked the manager, Menachem, if anyone had turned in my bag. He was not at all helpful and his attitude was arrogant and unfriendly. But I just knew it had to be there, so I went back later at around 10:00 pm, and lo and behold! It was a few feet from the seat I where I was sitting, tucked in sideways among the cleaning supplies in the metal shelving unit against the wall. Everything was there, except for $400 in cash. I went to customer service and informed them of my situation, we reviewed the camera to see exactly what had happened. Sure enough a woman from the cleaning staff could bee seen on camera taking my bag, placing it in her secret spot on the shelf and then fiddling around with its contents. Fast forward through three hours of her periodically returning to the bag and rifling through it. Nothing could be done at that late hour as Menachem (the manager) had gone home. I was given hs phone number and instructed to call the next morning in order to get my money back. So I called him and he stalled with a bunch of excuses until I insisted he tell me what he was going to do to recompense me for the $400 that was taken from my wallet by an Evergreen employee. That's when he started yelling at me, telling me he wasn't giving me "nothing" he "didn't owe me a thing" and that there was nothing he could do. He also hung up on me a few times, real professional, right? I then went into Evergreen to talk to him directly and he resumed his yelling and verbal abuse, at one point he even barricaded himself in the little office near the nuts and chocolate section, and SLAMMED THE DOOR IN MY FACE. He obviously could not handle himself so another manager was called over who was a little more rational, but proceeded to gaslight me about the stolen money, saying that maybe I lost it somewhere else, or had spent it without realizing it, and the kicker: how could I accuse someone like I did. It's all on camera, and now I have no choice but to file a police report and never step foot in a place that is so DISRESPECTFUL. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars at the store, and would probably end up spending the $400 that I had lost there anyway, TALK ABOUT PENNY WISE AND POUND FOOLISH. This is the pinnacle in a series of very poor customer service experiences the I have put up with over the years. NO MORE! THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH THE ABUSE. -Rachel M., Pomona, NY

The Flame has the best takeout Chinese food I've had in the area, but it's SO absurdly overpriced…read morethat most of the positives cancel out and I don't think I could justify coming back on my own dime. The office ordered lunch for us this past Wednesday (letting us choose the place) and since we knew it was more expensive from a prior website visit, this seemed like a convenient opportunity to give it a shot. The menu is predominantly the standard Chinese fare you'd expect, but as with many Kosher establishments, you also get some really random items too. All of us did a double-take when we saw churros in the dessert section, for instance, and morally felt we needed to order them as well. (There was also a dessert called "personal pie" that they were unfortunately out of - we were all very curious about that. Was it a fruit pie? A savory pie? A pizza pie? We may never know.) I ordered my standard Sweet & Sour Chicken off the entrée/main menu - I wasn't interested in the sides that came with the cheaper (but not by much) combo platter. Again, the prices are mouthdropping. A lunch combo for this would have been $20. Yes, $20 for an item that you typically would get for less than $10. The actual entree/non-lunch version? $26. Blown away; literally 3 times higher than you'd get elsewhere. I have no idea how they justify that, but thankfully this was not my wallet taking the bruising. That said, it's definitely decent for what it is. Per the attached picture, they separate the chicken and the rice within the container, which I like. It's a messier dish with the sauce, so anything that makes the experience more organized, I'll sign up for. The sauce was a little watery for my taste, but was flavorful. The chicken was the star here - cooked perfectly and I didn't need to eat around chunks of just fried skin. The churros...were interesting. They definitely are not dictionary-definition churros with the standard star tip and funnel action - it's just fried dough that's in a similar shape. It kind of looked like a Jersey Shore boardwalk funnel cake mistake or something. It came with a really odd non-dairy (of course) chocolate sauce that was honestly pretty terrible and tasted like substandard powdered milk. At first I thought this was an awful dish, but once I had a few bites of the naked Churros without that sauce, it definitely improved (and what red-blooded American can't get down with random pieces of fried dough,. regardless of shape?) If someone else is paying, by all means give this a shot. But it's not that much better than other nearby options that are quite literally a fraction of the cost.

We felt the hot dogs were rubbery in texture, and they tasted like they were reheated. The matzoh ball soup was bland. My mother enjoyed her pastrami sandwich. As far as atmosphere goes, the first table we sat at was wobbly. and when we transfered to the other, we found the table and season shakers to be sticky. The greatest disappointment was not the mediocre food, or the sticky table but what we witnessed. An elderly couple was sitting at the other table. The gentleman asked a server, possibly the owner or manager, for a glass of tap water. The response from the server was, "We don't have glasses of water here, but you can buy a bottle and I'll bring your two cups." We found this to be uncourteous and unwelcoming, and we felt a little embarassed for the nice couple. It seems that when a nice couple comes in to patronize your restaurant, and purchase a lunch, a little water would not be an unreasonable request. Any restaurant that treats elderly people this way will not receive my future business.

Now, this place acts more like a sit down restaurant than a pizzeria. So when we walked in, we needed to walk by tables that were outfitted with silverware and cloth napkins. It seemed like a nice small cozy place for a dinner date w/ your family or friends. And they have table service. I didn't look at the main menu closely, but they do serve typical Italian dishes - think pasta and Italian style chicken dishes. There really is no waiting area for people like us who ordered a pizza pie and are waiting for it to be prepared and taken outside. So we pulled. A few chairs away from the tables and sat on them in the corner by the back of the window where one can speak to the servers and kitchen staff. The pizza was nice and thin and cooked throughly. It was tasty albeit slightly oily, if that doesn't bother you, and it was solid pizza fare. Tastes like the kitchen uses fresh ingredients. It's a non-descript restaurant small and cozy preparing some delicious pies! This area of Rockland is predominantly populated by Jewish people. And there were many eating at this restaurant who seemed to be throughly enjoying the cuisine. Watching the dishes on the tables made me hungry as we waited for our order to be completed.
