The school sucks, the food sucks, the kids suck, I've seen kids get bullied and the teachers do…read morenothing about it. I had issues with this one kid because we had a lot of arguments and the teacher said she would follow us up with figuring it out and she never did follow through with that claim. Their burgers and buns have mold on them. I've gotten food poisoning from eating the burgers. I'm going to be going somewhere else from now on.

I however had my fair of triumph and failure at Arvada West, and can still say that it was a great place to attend school. I felt that Arvada West really worked well on all fronts. Excluding minorities, it had people of all economic backgrounds, so no one was alienated based on their economic status. They worked well with kids ahead of and behind the curve. They stayed focused yet still offered a way to enjoy. I no longer know the administration, but I can honestly say if they are as committed to excellence now as they were then, it is a great place to send students. Sports teams are both fun and competitive, great Choir program, great student body.

Out of all of the adults here there are maybe 5 at most who have generally been kind to the kids here. The punishments for this school are laughable. The punishments are harsh for small actions and the punishments for big actions are small. All of the teachers here talk so badly about the students and don't even care if they are right there. The passing periods are only 3 minutes which is not enough time for a student to go to their locker get some water or use the bathroom. The jeffco school dress code is very sexist. The same assistant principal also caused one of my friends panic attack. She passed out because of it in the bathroom. The councilor dress coded me while having a savior panic attack and didn't tell my mother anything that her and the assistant principal did and only said that I was the problem. Instead AFTER summer break right before registration his teacher calls asking if we would agree to holding him back. My sister declined to hold him back and decided to move forward with a tutor she would privately pay. The principal decides to intervene Making my sister feel harassed telling her even if she transfers him schools she will make sure he is held back! But my sister still refused to hold him back. It got to the point where she had to call the superintendent office who told her to enroll him through dps in the grade she is choosing, when calling she found that the principal had her son enrolled and held back without her knowledge! There a reason this school in in the bottom 50%

Just imagine, at AVS your child can speak, eat, learn, and use the bathroom whenever THEY choose to. There's no bullying or any of the other regular shenanigans other schools have. Imagine dropping your child off ANYTIME in a 2 hr. window and pick-up has the same flexibility at the end of the day. AVS is a place that practices TRUE restorative justice by requiring students to be active members in their weekly judiciary committee making students continuously aware of their connection to the school and their personal ownership/role within it. Student after student has come into AVS from a public or charter school setting and has truly bloomed into a self-aware, self-directed, and self-educated individual. Ironically, 9/10 it's the parents who struggle with AVS and allowing their child the same freedom and trust that AVS does. Truly trusting your child to learn and grow on their own takes patience, courage, and, most of all, trust.
