This place was even on a Monday evening packed solidly and since we didn't have a reservation we…read morehad to wait for about 20 minutes to get seated...but that was quite alright, as we waited in the upstairs area while enjoying some drinks. And here is where I have to really commend the waiting staff: they were really helpful and super nice, although they were really busy! Alas, I kind of can't give this place a higher star-rating, mostly because food-wise it was just an ok-experience...well, maybe I should rephrase: food wise it was what I expected from a pizzeria - ok pizza, ok salads etc, but nothing really made it an exceptional or truly memorable dining experience - apart from the people that I was with, that is. But in any case, if you want to eat Italian food and if you want to have a good time with a bunch of people, I would definitely recommend you come to Gino's as the vibrating and pulsating atmosphere does resemble the atmosphere you find in real Italian trattorias...and that alone will (hopefully) put you in a good mood.

We've been here a couple of times during various stays in Lincoln, both in a big group and as just the three of us. The restaurant copes very well given how busy it gets, and how big it is (seating over two floors), and has a good selection of Italian food (pizza, pasta, risotto, chicken and fish dishes). The food itself receives good reviews from friends we have dined with, and while I agree, I have yet to have anything mind blowing. Big tip: in order to avoid being treated rudely upon arriving, make sure you book in advance. Note for parents: no high chairs available, if you're likely to need one. Also it gets pretty loud, which is good if you're dining with a noisy toddler.

Decided to go Italian this time, it was our friend Jackie's birthday, she had eaten at Romans Place…read moreone lunch time and said she had enjoyed her experience so a table was booked. On entering the restaurant we were warmly welcomed, the place was very full for a Sunday night, but this was as we found out was because of two large Christmas dinner party's (More Later). The menu had a varied choice, what you would expect from a typical Italian restaurant, and also there was a good selection on the specials board. Food arrived promptly and was good, the restaurant decor was very nice although pretty plain. Prices were about right, also the two for one meal offer was a good deal. But the only downside to the evening was the very loud noise from the Christmas diners who were shouting and screaming a lot of the time. Now I am not against anyone enjoying themselves but it was very excessive and spoilt what would have been a nice evening, but to be fair to the owners they did apologise when we left although it was not their fault, but we would defiantly try it again hopefully next time it will be quieter.

We ordered a pot of tea for two but were disappointed to find it contained only 1 tea bag! We chose soup to start with and it did arrive fairly quickly. My onion soup was very tasty but my partner said her tomato soup was bland. Then we had to wait for half an hour for the main course. My roast beef was tougher than old boots and took so long to saw through that the veg. went cold before I could eat them. My partners portion of lasagne accompanied by 10 thin chips, 1/4 of a small tomato and 4 very small bits of lettuce was almost tasteless. To cap it all the tea cost £3.40 and I later found I'd overcharged by 40p. I wouldn't recommend Roman's Place at any price!
