I have been going to Janice at Pomagranates since they first opened close to 30 years ago. I have always had an excellent cut and the color is exactly what I have asked for. When I want something specific I will bring a photo in and Janice and I will discuss it. Some of the cuts or color just won't work on my face. I am extremely particular about my hair and Janice is the only person that I can honestly say that I trust to give me the results that I want. To update, it has now been 2 weeks since my "haircut" though calling it a haircut is a stretch. What it looks like is a hatchet job. Crooked, choppy, uneven, horrible. It is impossible to style or put up in a pony - it just looks horrible no matter what. I had cervical fusion about a year and a half ago, so I have limited range of motion and constant pain. That's the reason my hair was long and "unstyled" - it is physically painful to even try to blow dry my hair, lean back for a salon wash, or be pulled during staying. I thought I was pretty clear on this fact with Ester. Even after 2 weeks it is still upsetting to look in the mirror. Insult upon injury, Ester never bothered to return my call or respond to my review - not that she could offer any solution to this, but an acknowledgment or apology would have been appreciated. Which leads me to think she hacked me on purpose, though I can't imagine what I may have done to elicit such vengeful behavior. When you are trusting someone with your hair they should respect that trust, no matter what their personal feelings might be. So beware, if Ester is having a bad day...you might have to pay the price. read more

I absolutely love this place and while I have lived in Los Angeles for the past 5 years, I fly up to Santa Rosa to get my hair done here. Esther always does a fabulous job and I get so many compliments on my hair. She is very concerned with keeping my hair looking and feeling healthy--something stylists at other salons aren't always concerned with. I am a retired (but still licensed) hairdresser, so I am particularly aware of what a good haircut looks like. The owner, Janis, cut my hair. First, we sat down and talked about my hair and what I wanted., and she understood exactly what I was looking for and she gave me the best haircut that I have ever had! Usually, I have to wait a month or two for it to grow out to the length I wanted. I always come home and find strands of hair that are too long, or uneven, or too blunt and need feathering and I have to fix it myself. ALWAYS! This haircut was perfect! Janis is very sweet and friendly and she already feels like an old friend. The salon is drop dead gorgeous too. It is very clean, luxurious and well maintained. I finally found the perfect hairdresser and the most beautiful salon in Santa Rosa. I recommend it highly. I would give 10 stars if I could. read more

Janis keeps my hair in great shape. I'm always happy with it. The salon has a beautiful waiting area. It's in a 1920's vintage house. They are very prompt returning calls and scheduling appointments. My only complaint is that some of the other stylists are so noisy talking to their clients that it's not a relaxing experience. read more

I got a good haircut both times I went to the salon. However, my last visit was my last because of the poor customer service. I was on time for my appointment.. I waited 20 minutes while my stylist finished with her previous client. I could see her from where I was sitting. After she was done with the client she was socializing with him and another colleague She never once apologized for the delay. I would have walked out, but I was going to a wedding on the east coast. I felt for the receptionist because she seemed uncomfortable and embarrassed by the stylist's behavior. I will never recommend the salon. read more

This is my go-to hair salon in Santa Rosa! I actually decided to come here because I used to go to a salon of the same name in another town and I was feeling sentimental and this felt familiar to me. I go to Heather - she's really nice and cuts my hair just how I want, so obviously I'll keep coming back. I used to have extremely tangly hair and a good, layered haircut here fixed that right up. I like the building and the location, and what's funny is that my boyfriend really, really loves the lobby/waiting area because he think's it's nice and relaxing - he likes that there is coffee & tea and a comfy chair to hang out and read/play on his smartphone while he waits. "I didn't know salons were like this!" he said. lol. He actually looks forward to going to the salon and will remind me to go get my hair cut because of this. I like that there is parking in the back, so that's one less thing to worry about. read more

I came here to see Molly last Friday for the first time. Molly was super sweet, easy to talk to and made me super comfortable. She did an amazing job weaving my hair and cutting it. It was the night before halloween and she even gave me some non permanent hair chalk to go with my costume! Her blow out and styling were also top notch! Since hair doesn't stop growing and roots began to show both of them went above and beyond providing and delivering at home the custom colour and products necessary so I could (try) and keep up with my hair care regime. Just got back from getting my hair cut and colored by Esther Buchanan and my hair looks FABULOUS as always! I've been going to Esther for 20+ years and I am often stopped on the street and in stores with women asking me who does my hair! Pomegranate Salon stylists care about their clients, are always attending classes to stay current with new style trends, products and processes. I feel like family every time I walk into the salon. I travel for my job and had to move to Iowa for a 2 year period. Trying to find a stylist that could color and cut my hair at the level Esther did was quite the challenge - so much so that after the first 6 months of frustrations and bad hair, I worked my travel plans so I could stop over in California just to have Esther do my hair. Pomegranate Salon's space has a lot going for it...and for me, the best is my professional stylist, Bettina. She's a fabulous colorist and also cuts hair with fine attention to detail. If I could, I would award her with 10 gold (or rather red) stars. And I'm seriously grateful that her station is away from the chattering large front room. First off, I've tried several salons but hadn't quiet found the one. I was recommended by a friend to go to Alexandra to get an ombre. She did an amazing job! Matched it to the picture I brought in. Recently, she turned me from brunette to a full blonde. She addressed any concerns I had and remained professional the entire time. I'm completely happy with the price and quality of her work. It is what it is people. I received a horrible haircut, in this business, there are no second chances. Suck it up and accept that. When I leave a place, I say to myself "Would I recommend this to a friend". I absolutely would not recommend this salon to a friend, not only due to the worst haircut of my life, but also the follow-up stalking & harassment. I am surprised there are no other reviews for this salon. It is a wonderful place. I have been seeing Todd for years following him through three different shops. He has been here for quite a while now and he is such an excellent stylist, esp with precise cuts. I have very thick hair and most stylists try to layer and over work with thinning shears so that it is just a mess of various lengths. But Todd does a terrific job of shaping it into the smooth cap I love. He has done both bobs and short cuts for me and they are always perfect He trains constantly and is truly a craftsman. Plus an all around nice person. The salon is comfortable, pleasant and easy to get to and park. I highly recomment it. read more

I had scheduled an appt with Esther about 2 weeks before. I didn't not choose her but that what was available, never had I meet her yet she didn't greet me well. She was not too happy she left me in the chair where you rinse the hair out for 1 hour while she was with another client. If it where one of her elderly clients she would have not done that to them. My back was hurting and I was over charged for the service 145 for a trim and a color conditioning toner. Will never go back there again the first time I had Alex she was wonderful. read more

Most disappointed in hair stylist & the cut she gave. I was looking forward to getting a good,stylish hair cut based on reviews of salon. But what I got was a mess! First & last time I will go to this salon. I made the mistake by not asking point blank if stylist was proficient in cutting short hair but didn't. Anyway, she talked as if she knew about short hair & I trusted her & the shop. I walked out of salon looking like I had cut my hair myself. Absolutely lovely salon. Laura Lind cut my hair, and it was an absolutely lovely experience. I have curly hair, so she did a DevaCut for my hair. She really took the time to figure out what I wanted done with my hair, and she was constantly checking in to make sure I was happy with how it was going. She made sure to really explain the DevaCut process, as it was my first time getting a DevaCut, and she was very through in her explanation of the whole process. This is the first cut in a really long time where I absolutely love my cut. The salon itself is very nice; the location is an old house, and it's been decorated in a very lovely way while keeping with the style of the house. In the waiting area, they have a counter with coffee, hot water for tea, and cookies. Like most salons, they sell some products that the stylists use and they have a retry good variety of products as well. One thing I thought was surprising was that there didn't seem to be any receptionist at all. There was a desk for one, but there wasn't one there when I got there, and there wasn't one there when I left either. I had to wait a little bit before my appointment started, and another customer had to tell me where to go because I had never been there and it seemed like there was no receptionist. There was someone who sat down for a bit and took a few calls, but it seemed like she was more of an actual stylist than she was a receptionist. read more
