Service was superb. It's relatively quiet and softly lit. Service time was just right for visiting with old friends. A ribeye special included a poor ribeye. Interestingly, another party member order the same and it was superb in her view. So, I spoke to server about it. The old saying that the best know how to shine if there is ever an issue (and there always will be occasionally) is so true. With grace, an apology, and a very professional " what can I do", the server honored my request for another ribeye special. Situation corrected! She and the chef kept a customer! Nice little hidden gem in Greenwood. I've been several times and also had an office Christmas party there. This is a small operation with usually one waitress/bartender and one chef, so expect an European dining experience. Melissa has provided exceptional service and makes great drinks. Chef Polo delivers great meals at reasonable prices. The last meal I had there was the Pork Shank - Ossobuco which was on special for $21.99. The meat was so tender and fell right off the bone with a fork. Highly recommend it if you're lucky enough to find it on the menu the day you visit. read more

We decided to have our valentines dinner here. Even though this is a busy day for restaurants, service was good. Started off with bread and the herb butter which is really good. We split a caesar salad. It was very fresh and could tell the dressing was homemade. If I could give a negative star, I would! I never leave bad reviews because I know these are people trying to make a living, but dang! First of all the place smelled of mold and mildew! After ordering, we waited 40 minutes for our COLD crab cakes with, what could only be described as "milk!" It was horrible! We waited another one hour for our meals, and decided to leave. This was the second time wife and I have eaten at Polos. The food and service has been exceptional. The dishes are prepared with proper amount of spice and set out with well thought presentation. I went back the second time specifically for the Moroccan stew, which was sublime and expertly prepared! Excellent place for an intimate dinner or hanging at the bar with friends. Menu is eclectic and interesting. I had Blackened Snapper over basmati rice and broccoli. Fish was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Hubby had Penne Carbonara which he said was delicate and perfectly cooked. Great bacon flavor he said. He added a dinner salad which was literally lettuce with a few pieces of shredded carrots with zero creativity. We were excited to order the Bananas Flambé but what a disappointment. The ice cream was rock hard and tasteless. The "French toast" was basically bread dough. And the bananas were so overripe they were black. They made the dish look so unappetizing. No rum taste was present and the sauce was pretty thin. Just a major disappointment to an excellent dinner. We will definitely go back as there are many other menu items we want to try but will skip salad and dessert. And we never saw any of the bread or herb butter everyone raved about. read more

My coworker and I were in town for work for the week and this was the best meal we had while in town. The place was empty and we had it to ourselves. We had the duck spring rolls, shrimp and grits, and the shrimp and scallops. Each dish was better than the last! The presentation was beautiful and the taste was amazing. The waitress was so sweet, attentive, and friendly. Chef Polo came out himself after our meal and he was the sweetest man and you can tell he is so passionate about what he does. Food: I have munched at Polo's on several occaisions, and my experiences were always phenomenal. Drinks and appetizers had left an impression on me, therefore when my brother came to town I suggested dinner at Polo's. Unfortunately, our dinner left much to be desired. The waitress, although friendly, did not provide the fine dinning experience I was seeking, and the main dishes were heavy on the sauce. I suppose this is what European influenced food is like. Ambiance: tranquil but a bit dated. I would reccomend pollos for their appetizers, fresh bread and possibly classic drinks. I asked for a skinny margarita and it was not the best i have ever had. First, we decided to sit outside because the mildew smell inside was so strong it made several of us nauseous. After waiting almost 2 hours for scallops, a medium rare steak, and a salad, our food was inedible. It had been sitting under the heat lamps so long that everything had been overcooked. The steak had cooked to medium well. The risotto was no longer creamy but congealed. After sending the steak back, we still had to wait another 30 minutes. The waitress blamed the chef saying that he always over cooks everything. Either way, not a good way to have repeat business. This was a disaster. We arrived at 5:10 pm and requested to sit outside. The hostess/bartender looked confused. We got menus but NOTHING else. We sat for 10 minutes and the waitress finally asked us for drinks. We said nothing then a few minutes later changed and decided on some wine. That took another 10 minutes. so we have been there 20 minutes with water and no one asking what we wanted for dinner. She finally brought us the wine and some bread and butter. But no tableware with which to spread the butter. And no plates to use. My wife went inside and asked for tableware and was greeted with a huff. Did I mention the place opens at 5:00 pm and it took the waitress (They only had one) 15 min to turn the "Todays Special" sign around. After 30 minutes there, they finally took our order. They said they had an on rush and are now caught up. At 5:45 I went inside there were 5 tables inside and not a one of them had been served any plates of food. I told my wife this doesn't look good for us. We decided this was enough, My wife went to ask for our bill for the wine we drank. The bartender/hostess/waitress started talking to her, then the phone rang and she left my wife standing there. It is inconsiderate to leave a live customer for a phone call. She then said "Well, this isn't fast food. It's a restaurant." She didn't actually roll her eyes, but her body language and tone of voice did. My wife informed her that we've been in many restaurants and only one other was as bad as this one. Then she came back and said our food was ready, so my wife came back out and said it should be up in a minute. About 10 minutes later, the only other waitress (with Attitude!!) put the wine bill in front of me and said that was someone else's order that was up. We paid and left and will never go back!!!! I have to give this restaurant 3 stars, and feel like that might be pushing it. My overall experience was marginal, but maybe I was being a little picky...I hope not. For the prices on the menu, I feel I have the right to expect more. The first time we went there was a Monday. There wasn't but 2 tables occupied and when we walked in and there were 2 people waiting to be seated, us 2. then another couple walked in after us. the waiter came to the entrance and asked all of us to have a seat at the bar, until he had time to seat us. I thought that was tacky....why wouldn't he seat us and we could look at the menu? The tables were set. There were only 2 occupied tables in the dining room. I sure didn't feel like sitting at a bar with a group of strangers...and there was no bartender working, so we couldn't get a beverage....We decided to try another time and left. We tried again a few weeks later. Another waiter waited on us and we were seated promptly. Food was OK...I had chicken Piccata, and felt like it was over sauced. My friend ordered a steak and asked for the sauce to be on the side, but it was delivered also over sauced. My friend didn't complain and the waiter didn't notice. Service was OK minus. Wine selection...I like chardonnay, and I don't know what they served me, but it was 2 different types of 'chardonnay', that didn't taste like chardonnay. (Heck...I'd be happy with Yellow Tail brand, in this case.) For a place like this as far as dinner price and appearance go, which is nicely decorated, you would expect a sharp, polished, confident and welcoming staff that could make the visit a little more tolerable. We don't need to be entertained while dining, nor want to be, but an observant employee shouldn't be difficult to find or train. They had live music the night I went and that was a welcome change from normal. I was expecting pricey, but it was about the same as Outback. I went there for lunch too and the food was good. The chef special chicken breast with coconut curry was yummy. Trout cooked and seasoned perfectly. Abs the side dishes stood on their own. My friends and I are from out of town (big city) and were so happy to have discovered Polo's. Everything is fresh and made in-house. The chef really has talent and cares about what he serves. We waited a long time for waitress to take our order after she delivered beverages. She said she was getting the specials written down. Perhaps doing that before they opened would have been a good idea. Wait time between plates being delivered seemed rather long considering we had ordered first and only 1 other couple was there at that time. Once we finished eating it took forever for the waitress to come to us...she spent a long time on the phone taking a take-out order. We skipped the "house made desserts" because our patience had worn thin by then. Getting the bill took another nearly 15 minutes. She was busy doing other things and finally realized the other waiter wasn't preparing our bill, nor do I think she actually told him to until a good 10 minutes had passed. Ridiculous. Food was OK, bread was stale/dry. Not good and it is supposed to be house made as well. Reading other reviews tells me this has been an ongoing problem for years.
