Polly has a staged glamour that makes me think of little girls playing dress-ups in their mum's high heels and red lipstick. It isn't real glamour, there isn't really any class, but it is aspiring, playful and kind of fun. Going to Polly for a few very well made cocktails is all the excuse a girl needs to apply an extra slick of black eyeliner and hopefully slink in effortlessly in a silky dress and heels, throwing seductive glances around the room. I like Polly best when it's quiet, when there's hardly anyone there, when I don't have to doll-up and when I don't have to wait an eternity to enjoy a delicious cocktail. Perhaps I just want all that pretend glamour to myself.

Great place to go for happy hour. Cozy atmosphere and tasty cocktails. My friend's phone was dying & one of the bartenders provided her a charger. So nice! We both ordered the rendezvous cocktails, so delicious! I'd recommend my friends coming here.

As like many drinking venues after the smoking laws were enforced, Polly has carved out the front of its space to accommodate for the gaspers, which is unfortunate when you're an ex-smoker just trying to get in the door. Once inside you are treated to a world of decadence with red velvet couches and lounge suits, golden-framed prints, flocked wallpaper, chandeliers and the smooth background music that temps conversation. The décor has obviously been well thought out. The cocktail list is long and well rounded and I'm sure many have not remembered leaving after a hit or two from the absinthe list. The beer selection is impressive and they even cater for the non-alcohol minded. Packed on any weekend night, it's not as secluded as the furnishings would suggest. I recommend getting in there early in the week to take in the soft tunes with some idle chatter in the background and live it up in luxury.

I fucking love this place. The bartenders are awesome, the owners are really attentive and the atmosphere is unlike any other I've seen before. I feel like I've taken a step back in time or am having a waking dream when I walk into this place. I don't drink, so it's especially nice that they have delicious mocktails I can enjoy to fit in with the rest of my group. The food is decent too, comes out really quick and hot. This is definitely a unique place and my new favorite spot.

Review Highlights - Polly Bar

The cocktail list is massive, with pricing in the late teens to early twenties ($16 - $20, i just like saying it like an age).

The bar itself is very narrow and long with the central focus being on the stage. The decor is pretty cool with a range of impressive street art on the walls. They range of events is really impressive with art exhibitions, open mic nights, comedy nights and lots and lots of live music. We saw a night of bands headlined by the Buzzards, the atmosphere was relaxed and good times were had all around. They have happy hours beers every night of the week from 5-7pm and the drinks prices are pretty good all night long. Check out their website and you'll get a great feel for what this place is all about.

A few weeks ago, I dragged my house mates out to see my mate's band, The Wolfs play before some random American DJ. It was rainy and gross out so we had to hop in a cab which sucked but it was worth it once we arrived at this little venue. The place was packed and the sound was quality! All in all great vibes other then my bar complaints, I loved this place maybe because of the FREE live music. Be sure to check out the bathroom. I'd love to know who the artist was because the graffiti is really sweet. There was also a lounge area closer to the back a bit away from the music which would be good for people who want to talk inside. Though it's right on the street there are a few chairs and tables out front for smokers but it's a bit of a squeeze since there's not much walking room in between the front door, the smoking area, and the street.

Dr Morse, you have made a fan out of me. I've got mad love for this place…read more Came in for Saturday morning brunch and with the decent weather, decided to sit outside. This place has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating we snagged a table outside without issue. With the outside bar, we ordered and paid at the counter then endured the short wait for coffee and food. Now my latte was a bit more on the milky side, but today I was totally ok with having a milder coffee. Then brunch came. Now I was expecting greatness but was hesitant as to whether these guys and gals could deliver. But they did! I ordered the Dr Morse Benedict with bacon. I was totally not expecting the chilli, coriander and spring onion to compliment the panko-crusted eggs, roti and bacon. But holy toledos it was divine! The fresh chilli added a nice heat with each mouthful without being overwhelming, the cilantro added a nice subtle flavour without overpowering the dish. The spicy hollondaise had a lightness to it that complimented the saltiness and heaviness of the bacon. Oh and the roti. Never in my life have I enjoyed such a flaky and crisp roti and I'll never forget it. My meal was just perfection. I'm almost sure the eggs were supposed to be poached, in which case they were totally overdone but I actually preferred it more. Sadly, my partner wasn't too crazy about his poached eggs and sourdough with added heirloom tomato and bacon. The tomatoes were underseasoned and it was questionable whether he received a sourdough bread. I also got a chai latte to go which was delicious. Highly recommended, there seriously ain't nothing better than an epic brunch in the sun to fill a happy belly and put a smile on your face, and this place nails it.

If you walk in an L-shape that is. The drinks at Dr. Morse are always spot on. The cocktail options always change. The beer is always crafty and top notch. Extra kudos for having 'Tight Arse Tuesdays,' 'When in Ramen,' taco days and bbq's. Oh and the retractable roof in the back courtyard. I cannot imagine a better investment for this unnatural Melbourne weather.

This review goes out to the ladies. So you have been asked…read moreto queue...I think we've all gotten that little brochure by now. While a part of me gets a little resentful when my friends just shunted behind a rope just because I am with them, I get it. I get the point of this policy. I do. I just also like to think that I should clearly be exempt from that kind of policy because I have an overinflated sense of self. But then, every other girl in line is probably thinking the same thing: "I mean, come on! I'm just here to hang out with my friends. I'm not like these other girls!" So I make some token indignant noises quietly to my friends, and then wait patiently. Do I think it is the best approach? Personally, I would rather they take the Circuit route and have some open nights and others men only. Or there was one club I went to in Barcelona that simply charged women more, which worked to keep the ratio down and the hag quality high. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is that the managers do what they do to ensure the club serves its core clientele. You want to bitch about gender inequality? Let's talk about the Melbourne Club. Not even the Prime Minister and Governor-General can get in there. Once inside, the Peel is standard issue cheesy club fun - loud pop music, pricey drinks, crowded smoking area. If you're there with fab friends, you will have a fab time. My advice, ladies, is don't find the queuing thing prohibitive. Except if you are gaggle of girls out for a laugh or a hen's night, in which case you should go somewhere else because you're spoiling it for the rest of us. For the rest of you normal girls who just happen to be out with your gay friends, just line up and deal with it. You've probably got a better chance of getting in than the Prime Minister.

Drinks are not cheap, and the cash machine always seems to have a long line. 4. Cruise past the DJ booth if you go, because many nights it is a drag queen spinning the beats. There is just something immensely fun in my opinion to see a tall, blonde-wigged DIVA giving you the musical energy that you need.
