Placed an order for pickup, was standing in the pick up section and employees would make eye contact and quickly look away and start doing something else. Specifically with Jennifer, whom I tried to get her attention several times. Roberto, who I assume must be the manager, attended to me and handed me my order. Came here for the first time with my boyfriend and his family for a quick bite to eat while we were visiting. They were telling me how packed this place gets. How there are HUGE lines for the drive-thru and the inside occasionally there are barely any places to sit. Lucky for us, we went during the weekday during the day time. Personally, I still do not know what the hype is all about. This place is LITERALLY, just okayyyyy. The food wasn't exactly fresh and the inside resembled an average fast food establishment. There wasn't anything I ate that I could happily say, I loved, everything was simple average or below average. Tonight I was "Wowed" by the customer service at this location. Our food took an inordinate amount of time to come out. The manager came out to personally apologize and give us a free drink. When the food was finally ready the manager came back to our table to apologize again and ask if everything was ok with the food. This type of service is not expected at a fast food restaurant. This is probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a Pollo Tropical. No one seemed to want to work the front end of the store. I ordered off of the mobile app, the items I ordered were not at the mobile pick up area and no one was interested in working at the register when I was at the store, so my food was waiting there for 10 minutes until someone acknowledged my existence. I will say one VERY unsanitary practice I saw was a worker using a cleaver that was used to cut cooked chicken to open up a box. The cleaver was then placed back on the food prep area and another staff member used the same cleaver to cut up the chicken. Yeah... disgusting. I couldn't believe how dirty this place was. From the parking lot, the ramp to the door with what looks like old stains. The dressings bar was disgusting, they replenished it while I was there but did not clean it.
