Beautiful spot for a

Friendly host. Really beautiful scenery! Can't beat the wine . It's very close to Charlottesville!!! Would go back tomorrow!

Pollak has many highly rated wines. None on the tasting flights!

Pollak Vineyards is so close to being a five-star experience! We went on Memorial Day Monday, which is when most wineries in the area were closed. I think it is very smart of them to be open on Holiday Mondays. The view of their vineyards, the mountains, their pond, and the surrounding area is beautiful! The wines offered for tastings were ok, but not top-notch. Sadly, none of their award-winning wines were available to sample! I understand they are a small winery, but offer a special wine flight at a higher cost and I bet more people will purchase these 90+ point James Suckling bottles! We did buy a few glasses of their highly rated wines: the 2021 Chardonnay and the 2020 Viognier. They were excellent!! There were only two servers working that day, so it was difficult when one was occupied with a tasting and the other was doing things in the back. They were both very nice and tried their best, but it did cause most of the other couples and groups a few minutes waiting as things got busy. It was 90º the day we went, so despite the outdoor patio with umbrellas, the breeze couldn't keep up with cooling us off. We would've enjoyed our tasting on the covered patio area off the main building, but here's why I took off a star: a family had literally taken over several tables by putting their baby's toys and supplies on a blanket that they laid out in the walkway around the covered tables. This child was probably about 3, so because he was bored, he started to fuss and cry. Children do this and I understand. However, every single other table nearby that was occupied ultimately left the patio and came inside, as did we. The parents were oblivious to this and dominated that area for over 2 hours. Finally, we love dogs, but your brand new puppy is going to be rambunctious and will probably not stay still enough to allow you or others a relaxing tasting! Overall, we will probably come back, but hope with a few changes this could be a 5-star experience!

Pollack was a very nice vineyard with good wine and a very nice view! It was very relaxing and the staff was so friendly and knowledgeable about their wine! You can bring your own food in if you like but they do have item available for purchase.

The white wine flight was delicious and they had a few varietals that were notably better than other wineries in the area. I also really enjoyed the ambiance of the quiet outdoor patio and beautiful views.

What a beautiful vineyard! The wines and view were both wonderful. We enjoyed them so much that we left with a few to take home. The setting along the pond is very nice with ample seating on the patio and a few picnic tables alongside the pond. I love that they allow you to bring your own food as well. Well behaved dogs were in attendance so it is pet friendly. Bathroom lines are long on busy days so be prepared to hold it for about 15 minutes if the place is packed. Have fun and enjoy some delicious wine in a gorgeous setting. Will definitely return.

First time here. The grounds and view are beautiful. Tasting room is modern and clean and pretty. The wines were good, especially the recent Finger Lakes award winning Cab Franc. Bottles of wine were very pricey however.

Even with the fog it was a great stop on a Friday afternoon. The tasting was great the service was amazing and the view is perfect!

I revisited after a year and half, and was glad I did. Last time I had the misfortune of visiting when the tasting options were white-heavy, but I was thrilled when I had plenty of wonderful reds to chose from. And I came earlier in my trip so my taste buds were alive! Pollak is one of the older wineries in the area; a portion of their 27 acres of vines are around 12 years old, and they produce around 4,000 cases/year. Keith was my server, and he was quite the expert on his wines. The tasting room was every bit as picturesque as I remember. They are set against the mountains and have a pond right behind the tasting room. I mean, seriously; do wineries employ a scene director to find where to build their future tasting rooms??? I know that's not true; they build where they can find good growing areas, but still! What I tried: 2015 Pinot Gris: Tropical fruit notes; not bad but I'm not a big Pinot Gris/Grigio fan anyway. 2014 Chardonnay: My notes fail me! 2016 Rose: Blend of Cab Franc, Merlot, and Cab Sav. I don't see Roses that are blended with multiple grapes often but this was a nice change. I think made in a dry style. 2014 Cab Franc: Soft, some cherry notes. 2013 Merlot: Very nice, medium bodied. 2014 Petit Verdot: Favorite of the lineup! Not overpoweringly tannic like some PVs.

Tastings are $10 per person. I got an additional glass of their Viognier which was excellent. Sat outside on the patio with the best view ever! A pond on one side and the vineyard on the other. This is what every winery aspire to look like.

For the reds, the Meritage and Petit Verdot (the "Ron Burgundy" of their wines - ha!) were great as well.

For lunch, we had the Apple Brie and Turkey sandwich. That was such a good combination. We also had the Arugula and apples salad. It also was good. The main tasting costs $20. They also offer an option to customize your wine tasting for $30. Both provide four wines. We customized and had the Sauvignon Blanc, the Viognier, the Rose, and the Petit Verdot. All were good, and it was fun tasting such an eclectic mix of wines. The staff are kind and professional. Our server gave us a little history on the vineyard, which we really appreciated. I started researching various wineries and vineyards along the Monticello Wine Trail, because we had stayed at B&B in Charlottesville once a number of years ago. I settled on Afton Mountain Vineyards and I am SO glad we found it. We booked an overnight stay in one of their cabins. The very modern, well-appointed cabins can be rented even on weekdays when the winery itself is not open for tasting hours (we checked in yesterday, on a Wednesday). A sleepover at a winery! What a great thing to add to my summer adventures! The whole property is beautiful; very peaceful and serene. We enjoyed wine we had purchased earlier in the day on the back porch last evening and then coffee this morning. Our checkout time was 11:00 this morning, so we headed to the tasting room then. I wanted to try their Albarino wine. We purchased two glasses from a lovely employee in the tasting room, and sat outside for over an hour just soaking in the gorgeous scenery. Upon entering the charming house we were greeted immediately by the tasting room manager, Kephanie. She introduced their 13 wines and gave us our tasting options. There were quite a few rooms and as the only people there at the time, it felt like we had free range of the entire house! With all the character, antique furniture, and Knick Knacks, it felt like we had stepped back in time. There was also ample space outside on the Adirondack chairs and the views were spectacular, but since it was unbearably hot and we needed a table for all of our snacks (they sell a variety of snacks in the tasting room, but we brought our own), we chose to sit inside the tasting room. Kephanie offered to put a couple of tables together in the tasting room for us and she helped us get comfortable and situated with our snacks and tasting. I visited for the first time during a winemakers karaoke event, and it was a beautiful night of community, quirky karaoke performances, and direct chats with the winemakers themselves. To say I had fun was an understatement! The wine styles themselves tend to be fresh and newer blends or less common varietals made in very traditional methods, with low interventions and reduction of additives to the final wine. They also have a wine club for those interested in supporting their winemaking efforts on a regular basis. If you enjoy wine or are just getting into wine ,you'll love this place.
