I didn't live in Polk county for very long, but that's where I received every speeding ticket I've ever gotten. I literally go one for going 9 miles over the limit on I5 on a sunny day with no traffic, that's how ridiculous this department is. It gets worse. I used to own a house in Independence, I was hosting a BBQ on a saturday night, somehow we got a noise complaint. The officer who responded opened my gate and walked into my yard, started Carding my guests, when we asked him if that was legal (Its not) He told us he could search the entire house if he wanted to. We all complied to get him to leave, and eventually he did. But that's who these people are, that's what this department is. It's a nasty group of power crazy animals who will make money off of you any way they can. At least thats what it was when I lived there 5 years ago.

There is a brochure stand on the first floor in front of the post office windows. It was helpful with a few maps and some guidance. Plaques line the walls in each room and hallway with detailed descriptions about the history of the Courthouse. I only encountered 4 people in the offices today, so it was quiet. I meandered a bit, then headed upstairs. The Cupola was the best part. A 360' view of downtown. It's a beautiful building and I'm glad I took the time to check it out.

I mean…read moreTSA won't take them anymore but I was in a hurry to get to my attorney so I said whatever let's go. I met her in the "cafeteria" which isn't a cafeteria at all. Not even a break room actually. It's small, old and doesn't really offer any real food. My court date was for 2pm and we didn't actually get before the judge until closer to 2:30. But I have to say it was due to the lengthy speeches several previous petitioners gave to the judge even though he kept asking them to get to the point. I felt BAD for the judge when we finished because of the nonsense he has to deal with. The court is small and still it's not incredibly clear where everything is. I just was nervous I would be late and wanted to be on time with my ducks in order. At least the outside is pretty. Oh and the other thing: PARKING is insane. Take at least 15 minutes extra for yourself to park!!!
