I'm a youngin who had never been to a SSA office before, and figured it would be miserable like the DMV. But I was wrong! The guard explained the process to me and even got some of us to smile/chuckle, while remaining professional. The guard will look through any sort of bag you have with you (backpack, Fanny pack, purse, etc) to ensure you don't have any prohibited weapons. The guard then asks your reason for coming, so that he can tell you which selection to choose at the kiosk, then explains the process if you are new. In short, you check in with the guard, go to a kiosk where you enter your reason for being there, SSN, and if you are needing any disability assistance. The kiosk gives you a number and a ticket with the number on it. You take a seat and wait for your number to be called (it will also appear on the TVs). You then go to the station # that was called, and they help with your specific situation. I went in the morning and there was a long line out the door, but they got everyone in within about 10 minutes. The building is easy to find, there's plenty of parking in their parking lot, doors and the building are handicap accessible, bathrooms are easy to see and find, and the info on the TV is in Spanish and English with translators available for Spanish. Overall it was a great experience. I felt at ease even as someone with anxiety visiting a new place. Many of their services are available online which may be easier or more accessible for some folks.

We got the accident report about a week later and we were able to turn it right into insurance. No hassle. Their later hours (7am-7pm) made it very convenient to pick up after work.

To the best of my knowledge and belief, the officer falsified information on the police report, the detective assigned to my case did not perform due diligence to properly investigate the theft and no arrest has ever been made. But Des Moines is a pretty small city so I've spent my share of time on the North, South, and East sides too... I had a friend who needed notary services and we were trying to figure out a good place to meet up along with another party. The East Side Library came up as a possible spot. We agreed on a time. I grabbed my ledger, stamp, and a couple of pens and headed in that direction. I'd never been here before. The parking area is pretty good. It's a decent sized lot right off of Hubbell. Not near as big as West Des Moines or Urbandale... But suitable for this facility. The library itself didn't seem near as busy as some of the others in the metro. We quietly grabbed a table. I had a few minutes to look around and check things out as we were waiting for the last of our group to arrive. The East Side Library has that typical library feel to it. It reaks of organization which is unusual to me... I normally live my life in a slightly organized chaos... Lol It looked like they had a pretty good selection of books. Rosie's Ocean...their themed children's area. A fireplace nook for quiet casual reading. Computers and wifi. They appeared to have several meeting rooms available for use. After a few minutes with everyone at the table... Our business was conducted. Notarizations were completed etc. And we were on our way home. While not exactly the biggest libary in the metro... I was impressed by what I saw here! If you live in this area or are just passing through... Stop in and check the East Side Library out!

I had no idea they had a section of the building known as the Heritage Gallery! This Gallery showcases art works for different occasions from different artists. They update the works every couple months I believe. When we visited, they had local high school art work showcased and it was cool checking them out! The Gallery is not that big, all you need is 15 minutes max to take a look at everything closely and read their descriptions. Of course, this is free admission! There is a staff member at the desk to the Gallery for you to ask any questions about regarding the artwork!

I had to use the restroom, there was already someone in the first stall but I didn't know it was a man in the stall next to me until I seen the huge guy shoes and noticed the hairy legs that it was a grown man. I quickly got my knife out just in case, when another woman walked in (thank God she did.) As soon as she closed the stall door he quickly ran out of the stall and ran outside, so I ran out after him and stood there to find him stumbling over to his group of friends sitting at a picnic table right next to the bathrooms drinking beer. They were all laughing as they watched him stumble back towards their group and he was laughing as well. I couldn't understand what they were saying as they spoke in a different language and I still don't know why he was just sitting in the women's bathroom. It all happened so quick. There were people everywhere, so you wouldn't think something like this could happen, but it did. My family that was waiting outside in the parking lot didn't even know what had happened. So please be cautious, especially if you have kids!
