These guys and gals are wonderful and I'm very grateful for their service to us, the community…read more Station is a bit run-down, but that's to be expected when it's like 200 years old (exaggeration, but really, I'm convinced this building has seen living dinosaurs). Thankfully the new station will be finished by this time next year and it's in a better location because they have more space, it's new, AND I've heard it will be easier to park. The officers have always been polite, courteous, and helpful when I've called for help, and I really appreciate it. Funny story, the zipper on my wallet/clutch/purse thing once got stuck in the inside of my jeans back pocket, and this lovely lady officer spent a good 10 minutes with me trying to help me clip it our where the fabric was stuck so that she didn't ruin my jeans. It's silly, I know, but to me it shows the dedication and desire a lot of them have to help us out when we're just having a bad time!

Well this is my first review of a Police Station. This is not the kind of place that makes one…read morethink of happiness and joy. Normally a visit to such a building is the result of something very negative. The worst being that you are a victim of a crime and hopefully only a property crime. Or that you may be in the process of an arrest and that is never nice whether for a minor offense or for a felony. And then again you may be dropping off goodies for the guys and gals in Blue during Carnival Season. Unfortunately my visit was because I am a crime victim. A thief absconded with all the beautiful Mardi Gras decorations we placed on our home. I was dropping off the video of this low life heathen. The thief just happens to be female and up in age. And I must say that the response and follow up to the two incidents of theft were handled professionally and in a caring manner. Not a major crime and there is so much they have to be concerned about I was pleased with my three contacts with the members of the NOPD. And the visit to 4317 as the Station is called brought back memories from a time I was younger, slimmer, hairier, and a proud member of the NOPD. Probably a time where many YELP participants were not even born. The building is renovated and there are no longer stables in the back. The cells have been converted and so much is different. Time marches on. The odd thing about the Second District Station today, if you don't know, is that it is now located in the newly formed Sixth District.

This review is for the child safety seat program at Troop B…read more Not having my first child until I was well into my 40's, I didn't know a thing about car seats. In fact, I could barely differentiate between a car seat and a chaise lounge. But parenthood forces you to learn quickly, make informed choices and do whatever is in the absolute best interests of your child. I was very thankful to the NICU nurses at Children's Hospital for the initial car seat inspection, but fast forward many months, and our lil man was outgrowing his Britax B-Safe car seat, which was still in its rear facing configuration. Since we already had a Britax base, we opted for the Britax Advocate seat, but wanted a professional opinion regarding the install. While chatting around the proverbial "water cooler:" at work, a coworker suggested that I contact Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop B, as they have a child safety seat program headed by Public Information Officer (PIO) Trooper Melissa Matey. I called Trooper Matey and she was very informative and enthusiastic about the program. She advised me that the program was available every Wednesday from 1 PM - 4 PM at Troop B in Kenner, LA, and that if we brought the seat, they would properly install it. I was fortunate enough to have Trooper Matey herself (lucky lucky) assist my wife and I with our son's new seat. Even though the law states you can face your child forward at just 1 year old, she strongly recommended leaving him facing rearward. Furthermore, as an FYI to any readers of this review, she added that even if your child's legs looked a little cramped in the rearward position, their legs at this age are very pliable and it is a much safer position. She also gave us some very useful literature from the State of Louisiana regarding car seats and the laws that govern their use. Trooper Matey not only demonstrated the proper car seat installation; but she actually did the entire installation for us. Furthermore, she explained in great detail the difference between using the vehicle's safety latch system versus using the seatbelt. Little did I know that most latch systems are not intended for use once the combined weight of the child and the seat exceed 60 or so pounds; and that you are to NEVER use the latches and the seatbelt together to secure the seat; as the seat is neither designed nor tested for this. Fast forward to April 2014 and my son had passed his 2nd birthday. We reached out to Trooper Matey again and she correctly placed his seat in the forward facing configuration. Easy as pie, and my child was thrilled to see the road ahead of him as he faced forward. Fast forward to January 2015, and our family really needed a car seat in my vehicle, as we were really limited with just 1 car seat in our family. Since I have a sports car and the rear seats are narrow, I reached out to Trooper Matey, who advise me that Diono made a narrow seat that should fit. Furthermore, if we had additional children, Diono seats can accommodate three across in most mid-sized cars. (Not gonna happen here, but it was good to know). I got a Diono Radian RXT and went back to Troop B. Even though there are several authorized installers on Wednesdays, Trooper Matey once again handled our newest seat installation. While doing the installation, she advised that since the combined weight of the seat and my son was nearly 60 pounds, I should use the vehicle's seat belt for the installation. I watched her press her weight (which is hardly any weight at all, as she is petite) onto the seat to compress it while she pulled the seatbelt out all the way and slowly released it so that it locked in place when it got to the right position. Heck, I didn't even know seatbelts had that capability. She showed us how to check for movement at the seatbelt and not at the front f the seat. This program is wonderful and I cannot recommend it enough. In fact, I wish it was mandatory, as there are a lot of people who are installing seats incorrectly. If you have ANY doubts about your child's car seat or just want to ensure that it is correctly installed, do yourself and your child a favor and reach out to Trooper Matey. Either she or one of the many talented & certified installation technicians will have you on the road in no time, and your mind will be a little more at ease knowing it was done correctly. Drive safely!

We shared a delicious, cozy meal at Curious Bistro, the perfect spot to slow down and soak in the city's charm over great food and better conversation. Did you know New Orleans has more historic districts than any other U.S. city? Or that it's home to the world's oldest continuously operating streetcar? He also lied on the police report many times and I sent their team detailed information and a video of the incident documenting this fact. I have stage 4 cancer metastasis in my spine. I am a fall risk and I could have been severely injured. I said nothing to this unsafe retired cop to provoke him. In fact he came towards me and SLAPPED my hands really hard and said "don't you touch me!" He tried to start something. He then grabbed my shirt and pushed me backwards about 20 feet into some equipment. I almost fell. I inquired about filing charges against this man with MPD. No one would respond to my return receipt certified letters and video. They closed the case! This unsafe retired cop from Texas is walking around Scott free. Battery is a crime. I also filed an addendum to the police report that refuted the lies via video. These LOW INTEGRITY cops took out the addendum. The raw report makes me look bad and wrong. Thank you MPD for your following of the laws and fairness. TYPICAL. These same cops were allowing a business owner to illegally park their vehicles in the State right-of-way and in the horizontal sight distance triangle. I made a complaint with LADOTD to try and fix this unsafe problem. You couldn't see around vehicles at this business when pulling out of adjacent driveways!!! LADOTD posted NO PARKING signs out front of this business. These cops still allowed these defiant people to park in the right-of-way even after the District traffic engineer told the owners on 3 separate occasions that they couldn't park there. MPD was VERY aware of these contacts via emails. Maps and documents were sent to the appropriate parties and it now "seems" like the law is now being obeyed contrary to MPD's warped stance. I was at a local grocery store. I was calling these cops to tell them that a man was illegally parking in the fire lane. The man that was in the fire lane threatened to punch me in the nose, because I called the police. I filed a complaint with these cops about this incident. I gave them his out of State license plate. The plate number was wrong so no tie could be made to the law breaker. Well two weeks later I see this same man at the grocery store. I call these cops again. The new cop takes down the license plate number and eventually gives it to the cop that took my original complaint. The original cop did not follow through & contact the lawbreaker for threatening me. He said that the out of State plate number was one character off from the original plate number I gave him. YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME??!! I told him that was the guy! That had to be the correct plate number. ONE CHARACTER OFF?! HE NEVER followed through. TYPICAL MPD BEHAVIOR. I file complaints against these cops for poor driving habits etc. I post some videos of this inappropriate behavior online. I believe they don't feel they have to treat citizens fairly and appropriately if they file complaints or don't like most cops in general. MPD IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED.
