Love, love, love! I took my first class at pole kittens and it was so much fun and I can't wait for next week. I was so nervous when I was driving to the class and I wasn't sure what to expect. Our instructor Angie made sure everyone was comfortable and explained everything very well. The routine we are learning makes me feel confident and powerful, I've learned spinning around the pole is probably the most fun thing I've ever done. I totally recommend at least trying these classes, don't be shy no one will judge you at pole kittens. Usher doesn't mind and neither does any of the other girls dancing :) (sorry I had to do it). Every woman should feel beautiful and happy with themselves. I'm excited for next week and oh by the way pretty much every muscle in my body is sore! That was an amazing workout but the best part is you don't know you're actually working out until you're finished because it is so much fun!

We went here for my bachelorette party and we had a blast! If you are looking for something different and a good time you need to go here. 10/10 for sure!

The best part about Pole Kittens as opposed to other experiences I've had is that you can move at your own pace.

McKie Recreation Center - Weight room 2021

So far so good! It's 2021 and we're slowly recovering from the panorama (yes, panorama lol). Inside…read moredining, theaters, and gyms are opening back up. The McKie Rec Center is no different. I recently moved into the area and heard about the weight room. I paid for a 3 month membership, which was $45 dollars. I believe this includes access to all Cincy rec centers but will need to test that out. The 45 bucks gives me access to the basketball court and the weight room. COVID SAFETY: For now, you have to call and schedule a time to go into either facility. They are keeping the number of people very low so I appreciate that since the weight room is fairly small. You must call and book a time on the hour for the hour. My only complaint is there isn't an online portal or email I can send, I have to call, and if you know me - I HATE calling anyone haha! Oh well. It's a great alternative for me when I'm not feeling like running outside. It's walking distance and opens up at 8am so I can get my morning burn before the day starts. Glad to have it available!

I think the Cinci Recreation Commission facilities are a great benefit to the city and fully…read moresupport their inclusion in the city budget, etc. Unfortunately there are a lot of things competing for the same funds, and certain communities draw the short straw. And, unfortunately, McKie suffers from that. Most of the equipment is old and beat up, but in working order. They are not open weekends, but they are open late enough on weekdays to get in a workout after work. McKie also lacks a few amenities that some of the better funded CRC centers have such as a running track. Now, those are a few of the negatives to get out of the way, and unfortunately they are things the folks at McKie just can't do anything about. Now, the good things. First off the people are really great. Everyone is very friendly, and not because they are looking at you like a walking commission. I have seen people being trained there, but I'm not sure how that is set up, definitely not in a high-pressure way. They have classes in martial arts and I think I've seen some women walking around with yoga mats. And the other big tradeoff for the gently used equipment is that an adult membership is only $25 a YEAR!! A main charge for the center seems to be the programs for area youth. I know there are regular and structured basketball times, and I've seen younger children occupying the front room doing arts and crafts projects. Also, in the summer, McKie hosts a number of day camp activities as well as swimming lessons. The front room also hosts community organizations such as the Community Council and acts as a jumping off point for things like the Great American Cleanup. So, as I mentioned, the CRC community centers are asked to do so many worthwhile things, and do them on a shoestring budget. The only reason I give this a 3 star review here is because if it had a bigger budget, I need room to go to 4 or 5.

I spend a lot of time here, but that doesn't mean I particularly like it. O'Connor has one big…read morething going for it: It's cheap. As a faculty member at Xavier, I pay $100/year for my membership here. You can't beat that with a stick, so I'm willing to put up with some shortcomings - ok, a lot of shortcomings. The huge, huge problem here is air circulation. Even during the winter months, O'Connor has a big problem with temperature and air flow. They have a few standing AC units, but in such a big room they're pretty ineffective. I only joined in November and shudder to think what this place will be like over the summer. I fondly refer to it as my "Bikram gym experience" - if nothing else, maybe I sweat away a few extra pounds or something. The machines are a little on the older side, and so there are usually one or two out of service at a time for repairs. There are some nice TVs in the cardio room and the staff is pretty amenable when you ask for one of them to be changed, etc. The bottom line is that this is a great gym if you get the discounted price for folks affiliated with Xaivier, but if not, you're probably best to look somewhere else.

As a former undergrad and current graduate student at Xavier I have used this gym for years. I must…read moresay you're not getting anything flashy exercising here. While this gym is Xavier University's workout facility it is also open to the community. O'Connor Sports Center is a wonderfully affordable solution for your gym needs and if you're one of those people who enjoys anonymity when working out and appreciates the ability to exercise in a ripped t-shirt covered in paint then, well, this is your place. Frankly this gym could be worse as the equipment is fairly updated, there are multiple pools, clean locker rooms, weight rooms, and fitness classes. I've worked out in gyms that could eat O'Connor for breakfast but regardless this place has a very local feel and you will enjoy the laid back feel of this gem. Bring a water bottle because the vending machine is $1.50!
