We bought our home knowing full well that adding on an office and in-law suite was going to be…read moredifficult. Here's why: We really wanted it to look like it was designed with the rest of the house, not just tacked-on later with no thought or care. Enter Mark Kearney. He had worked on a relative's addition and she raved about his work, so we had him come over for a chat. He walked around the house, taking pictures from every vantage point. We had warned him that our home was in a pine forest and we wanted NO trees to come down, so he shoe-horned his design between the trees. (The builder kept his chainsaw in the truck, hoping we would change our mind. We didn't.) Oh, and ours is a steep lot. Oh, and we needed matching skylights. And on, and on... We were, probably, clients from hell. Or at least our parameters were. Now, three years later, people drive up our driveway and ask if we just built the house. NOT if we'd just added on. It is perfect. I don't use that word casually; from the addition, you don't see the house, and from the house, you don't see the addition. That was completely Mark's idea and execution. There is not another home like it on earth and we are supremely pleased with his thorough, masterful design. There is no way I can overstate my admiration and recommendation of his services. I had seen fantastic residential work and so requested a bid for our commercial project. They did a phenomenal job. First, his prices were surprisingly very competitive. He seems to smartly reduce his business overhead and apparently transfers that cost savings to his clients. His office is super cool yet run very efficiently. This is the boring, yet obviously very important, consideration. Second, and far less boring, the design process was fantastic. We went through countless revisions, and he never got frustrated with our indecision (as in most projects I suspect, there was plenty!). He also worked perfectly with our interior designer and made sure to keep things organized and always worked as the voice of the owner. With so many moving parts, this was key. I was very surprised we were able to stay on budget because we had many requested changes. I believe Chris viewed failing to hit the budget as his own shortcomings. This mentality alone is worth a premium and makes his competitive pricing even better. Finally, we hired an independent Project Administrator who did not perform well and ended up leaving the job before it was finished. Chris, put countless hours into the project to keep things moving and absorbed all the responsibilities of the PA without causing any delays at all. In the beginning I would find myself so overwhelmed until I realized Chris was always on top of it. Eventually, I was able to focus on business operations with complete trust that he was handling everything. Bottom line, I could not recommend RedHouse Studio enough. I had very high expectations, and he far exceeded them. He's a professional that views each project as his own. He clearly loves what he does, and he made the experience exciting and fun.

Their comprehensive in-house design and build approach was unlike that of other contractors, and their cooperative communication was instrumental in developing and meeting our expectations. They made understanding us and our house equal priorities. They educated us about the condition of the house, brought in an engineer, and designed projects around improving and reinforcing the house. They found and corrected issues created by the house's original builder. They work well coordinating their work with other contractors. With one exception, there were no call-backs. A minor installation error discovered years later was cheerfully and promptly fixed as a warranty item, a reflection on their commitment to their clients. When it came time to sell the house, the quality of their work was a strong draw for the buyers. It drew a crowd. They exemplify how a great team can accomplish great results!

They originally reached out to me asking to take it down. When I refused to do so because I believe that my review reflects my family's experience, the messages kept on coming. At first, she said I shouldn't leave a bad review because I have never dealt with a death in my family (not true & not sure how that is relevant). Then she accused me of writing my review to punish the company and for no other reason. My response was: "Let's be VERY clear here. I'm not "punishing your company". I'm leaving a review of our experience on a site that is meant to leave reviews of people's experiences with different companies. If all owners tried to bully patrons into only leaving good reviews on Yelp... well there would no longer be a Yelp. I'm leaving honest feedback on how it felt to deal with your company. I'm sorry that you don't agree with our assessment, but it's truly how it felt. I'm very glad that we parted ways when we did so that we could work with someone that was much more pleasant to deal with."
