Called polar peds to see if their dr knows about SIBO so we can find someone educated to give out toddler the best care possible. Pretty much gets told I'm trying to be a physician because we delay vaccine due to his prior health concerns and reactions. Including EXTREMELY high fevers multiple times a month for multiple months on end. That was not a pleasant thing to be told I'm trying to doctor my child all because of vaccines and that I wont be a good fit for the dr to see my son because of it.So yea I just hung up. Wasnt a pleasant experience. It's a shame that a doctor has to go out of her way to try and intimidate a possible future client/mother due to a medical team group decision that was made for the child. I definitely would not recommend bringing your child to see a doctor who has such bad skills with people. read more

Absolutely terrible!!! First of all, we were patients for several months and we arrive 8 minutes early. We walk in and she asked if we had a chance to go over the patient forms. We had no idea what she was talking about. She said the new patient forms, we said we weren't new patients, apparently she doesn't take the time to even look at her patients to recognize them. After that she was saying that being early is just as distracting as being late. We were 8 minutes early!! We were so shocked I couldn't say anything. We left immediately after and switched to a different doctor. The absolute worst, do not go here!!! Zero stars if I could!! read more

Wow! I'm pretty disappointed to see such an awful review for Dr. Monique. I've been going to polar peds since 2010 with my first born, and then of course with my daughter in 2012 as well as my step son who is 12. I love her office! Very artsy and very kid friendly. Dr. Monique never rushes us out of appointments and always takes time to help us with any concerns or issues/ questions with childhood behavior etc. and always provides the best resources. I trust and always value her opinion. Most importantly, my kids trust her and are comfortable there. I always recommend polar pediatrics. read more

We received the worst customer service we've ever received from any industry, whether that's going out to eat, or staying at a hotel, etc. This doctor's office is actually super hard to find. We were initially on time the first time, but because we parked in the front, Dr. Monique Karaganis told my wife that she had to park in the back, as patients are not allowed to park in the front. Very inconvenient, especially with children, as you have to go back out in traffic and around a long fence. So we arrived a few minutes late due to not being allowed to park in the front. She refused to see us that day, apparently because we were "late" and we didn't have our paperwork filled out, which the doctor never told my wife to have any paperwork filled out over the phone. My wife would have done printed out the pages from her website if she had known. The doctor remained insistent that she had told my wife this. She gives my wife an appointment time of 4:30 for the next week. At the last minute, she comes out, saying we can come in at 4:00 to fill out the paperwork so we don't have to do it at home. Wow, we're thinking this lady is nice and thinking of us. Next week we arrive at 4:03 in the parking lot, and 4:05 in her building for our 4:30 appointment, which is really a super small house turned into a doctor's office. First thing she says to us, "You're really late." Not even a "Hi, how are you." Besides the fact we actually had our paperwork completely filled out except for one sheet, so we were actually 25 minutes early. Dr. Monique Karaganis insisted that she changed our appointment to 4:00 when she came out to the parking lot the week before. Both my wife and I remember clearly that she had just asked us to come in early to fill out the paperwork, but she never changed the actual appointment to 4:00. So she asks us to go to the blue room where she will have to explain the rules to us. I want to leave already, but my wife says give her another chance. So I go along with it, thinking that she will start acting more professional. Instead, when she does see us, she lectures us in a very condescending way right in front of our children. She explains how she runs her office differently and we have to be on time. She won't budge from her point of view that the appointment was changed to 4:00. And she keeps arguing her point. We're not here to argue, and we're definitely not here to be scolded in front of our children. Even if she is right, the best thing is to just drop it and act like a professional doctor, not somebody who belabors points. During this entire time, we were very polite to Dr. Monique Karaganis, never yelling or even getting mad. I think we more shocked than anything by how she was treating us. We're happy people...life is too short, and while we have seen poor customer service before, we're pretty easy-going and forgiving. However, we've never seen anything like what we saw with Dr. Monique Karaganis, who owns Polar Pediatrics on Northern Lights Boulevard in Anchorage, Alaska. Most professionals could have handled the situation in a number of different and positive ways, instead of saying to my wife as we walked in at 4:05, "You're very late" for an appointment we had at 4:30. Misunderstandings do happen, but there's no excuse for rudeness. Life is too short, let's be happy everybody and give people the benefit of the doubt. She has a ton of videos on Youtube where you can at least see her viewpoints. Just search for her name. You might like her and you might not. She makes blankets if you see her for prenatal care, but realize this is probably more of a marketing move, as she doesn't actually give you the blanket until the baby is one year old. Well as most people know, the times you see a pediatrician the most is in the first year, so by doing so, she ensures that she gets the most office visits. As children get older, their visits to pediatricians usually decrease in frequency. I'd rather have a respectful doctor than a rude and disrespectful doctor who makes a blanket for your newborn baby to give them on their 1st birthday. If you still don't believe how disrespectful she can be, try being 5 minutes late, especially if you're a new patient. You'll be shocked by how she treats you. We weren't even late, but she was adamant she changed our appointment time, but there really was no point in arguing back with her. At the very end, she actually said we probably wouldn't be able to mend things. Realize now we weren't getting mad or yelling....this is completely based on us being "late" and arriving at 4:05 for our 4:30 appointment because the doctor thought she changed our appointment to 4:00. We have been seeing Dr. Karaganis for a few months now and she is exactly what I was hoping to find in a children's doctor. I visited with five other pediatric office's in Anchorage (so without naming names...every other large one in Anchorage) both before I was pregnant and once my daughter was born and at every one my daughter (and I as well) was treated like a number, not even a person let alone a patient. After visiting these larger offices (to see highly recommended doctors there) for a couple of visits I decided to try Polar Pediatrics at the recommendation of several women in my baby group. COMPLETELY different. With Dr. Karaganis my daughter always gets the kindest, most loving treatment and Dr. Karaganis really gives just as much focus to the parents. She answers all of our questions respectfully, is always kind to my daughter (even lets her sit in my lap while she takes her heartbeat- I was shamed by multiple doctors for wanting to hold my daughter while she was getting her shots and having a doctor be comfortable with my shyer baby was so heartwarming), and makes the overall experience of going to the doctor much more enjoyable then I ever thought it could be. The first time I called this office I spoke with the receptionist (the woman who answered the phone) for a good fifteen minutes about my daughter, my concerns about her health, and at the end wanted to know the name of the best medical receptionist I had ever spoken to (normally they don't bother to even get my or my daughter's name right) and discovered I had been talking to the doctor the entire time! I was blown away by this level of personal care- I told everyone and no one could believe that a doctor was answering her own phones and helping out a parent over the phone without any sort of pay/visit required. With Dr. Karaganis there is never confusion about who you talked to or what you owe- you only ever deal with her, financially- planning wise- everything. After our first visit, which was over a half hour, I knew we were going to stay with Dr. Karaganis- she clearly loves what she does and is dedicated to the care of children. I was prompted to write this review though because just this last week we had a scare with our daughter, without going into detail let's just say she was very sick stomach wise for a few days and I was very worried. I called Dr. Karaganis and got her voicemail (as she was with a patient and, as I said, does everything herself so there is never confusion). I left a voicemail saying that I was worried and would just like Dr. Karaganis to see her sometime soon if it wasn't too much trouble. Within an hour Dr. Karaganis had called me back three times (I couldn't answer the phone) and when I got a hold of her she told me that she was going to get me in the next afternoon- as soon as she possibly could. And that she had called so many times because she could tell over the voicemail that I really was worried and she didn't want me to be worried anymore. That is a level of care that I am unfamiliar with in the medical world- where not only the patient but the family of the patient are taken into such consideration. Dr. Monique Karaganis is a dedicated doctor and if you are looking for the stereotypical cold, distant Doctor who keeps their distance and talks down to their patient (out of some warped confusion over the difference between professionalism and elitism I'm sure) then Polar Pediatrics is not for you. If you are looking for a doctor for your child who is extremely knowledgeable, kind, professional, and (what I think is very rare) clearly cares greatly for your family and your child then I highly recommend Polar Pediatrics and Dr. Karaganis. read more

This doctor is absolutely a scam artist and joke. My daughter went there in March of 2016 for an earache. The lady put a little peroxide in her ear and then used tweezers to pull out some earwax. I paid my copay and was on my way. I assumed she'd bill my insurance -which she stated she did accept - and I'd be responsible for what was left. She called a couple times and stated on my voice-mail that I only owed her $100. I got a call yesterday from a collection agency saying I owed Polar Pediatrics over a Grand. I was shocked, like what do I owe a grand for? I was told $100 and all we had was a little earwax cleaned out- Did that cost $1200 to do? Plus, I have insurance - good insurance at that. Come to find out, Polar Pediatrics is not In Network after all. Apparently, me asking if she accepted United Healthcare didn't prompt her to notify me she was Out of Network. I called her yesterday to work something out, pay the $100 or whatever, and move on. I guess now since I didn't respond to her 2 or 3 calls last yr, she will no longer "cut us a deal" and we are expected to pay this full balance. She was exceptionally rude and condescending to me and continued to state I should've answered her call last August. I never once received a bill, never a notice that I was being sent to collections. I asked her about this on our call regarding the charges and she so rudely advised me she only does business over the phone. As a business professional myself, I am adamant about a "paper trail". What kind of business doesn't send a bill? I promise and cannot state enough, she's a quack and I highly advise not using her as your pediatrician. read more

Dr. Monique is not only a terrible doctor but an even worse excuse of a human being. She is arrogant, rude and just plain disrespectful. She became my children's pediatrician when we first moved to Alaska and didn't really know the area. When my daughter was six months old she became very ill very quickly. I took her to the hospital and they discharged her and told me to follow up with her PCP on Monday. I brought her in to see Dr. Monique and was shocked to find out that she had lost three pounds in two days. Dr. Monique said that that's not possible and I must have had her weight wrong. I began to tell her how bad my daughters vomiting and diarrhea was and she just looked at me and said " come back in two days". Seriously? I brought her back because she still wasn't feeling well only to find that my six month old daughter went from 19lbs to 13lbs. She said "oh well I just didn't believe that it was that bad. Doctors don't believe patients we believe symptoms." I took my daughter to the hospital and when I got there the nurse told me that Dr. Monique had called and told them that I didn't take my daughter in because of the cost. Like are you kidding me?! I would not recommend her to anyone. She is a danger to your child. My oldest use to love going to the doctor until she became his doctor and all he would do is cry when we would pull up. I found a new pediatrician right after and it was the best decision ever! Don't go through the heartache of making the mistake of trusting Dr. Monique with your child's care. Oh and a side note those quilts she makes for the babies is really unsanitary. Why would you use the same blanket you saw a child with when they were sick at an appointment when they are feeling better? read more

I loved Polar Pediatrics as soon as I walked in the door. They give a personal touch, and are very interested in making the child as well as the family welcome, and at ease. Dr. Karaganis is so wonderful! When we ultimately moved out of state, I was in tears in her lobby when I came to pick up records and say good-bye. I highly recommend her to everyone! read more

Wow! What an incredible place, artsy & homey. The kids loving going & the doctor takes time to answer my questions. I have never had to wait, she runs on time & respects my schedule. And she quilted my newborn girl a blanket. The only hard part was explaining to her older brother why he didn't have one. So the doctor made him one too!!
