I called again this morning and Morgan once again answered and I explained that Gidget was getting worse, not eating and her breathing was very labored, I'm 72 years old,and I've had several dogs! i moved here from NY and anytime one of my dogs needed care the vets office would always get me in as soon as possible. Our only option was to take her to Clare Animal Hospital since it was the closest facility to us. We are so glad we did. We had never been there before, but they took us right in. They quickly took us into an examination room where Dr. Gaw did a quick examination. He then took her into their surgical area, gave her sedation and sutured her tongue to stop the excessive bleeding. We then drove home to Rochester to monitor Bella's recovery. Two days later, she is eating normally, resting comfortably and healing well. Dr. Gaw's quick action, excellent care and wonderful staff turned our horrible ordeal into a very positive outcome. Bella is now an established patient and we will gladly return to Clare Animal Hospital if the need ever arises in the future. Kudos to Dr. Gaw and his amazing staff.

Good thing it wasn't an emergency that I was dealing with. However, at their old clinic their service had been wonderful. All the bad customer service began once they got into their new building. One time it took them over a half an hour to check me and my dog out. I don't like how that is set up. Once my pet's office call is over with i feel you should be given your bill and meds, if needed, right away and be able to be on your way home. This waiting to check out is very inefficient. Unfortunately I had to seek services from a new vet because I couldn't handle their poor customer service anymore, which is a shame because their prices weren't that bad there. I don't know how they are now but hopefully they have gotten better for their remaining patients.

Most recently, I paid $250 for my dog to be seen during regular hours. Less than 24 hours later, her condition had worsened. She was lethargic, still wasn't eating after three doses of medication, and was continuing to bleed from her rectum. Because no regular drop-in appointments were available, I was directed to urgent care and charged another $500, including approximately $130 in fees added to the prescription costs. I called the office and spoke with Jill about the unexpected charges. While she apologized that I was unhappy with the experience, no adjustment was offered. I recognize that, as a pet owner, I can always ask more questions. However, transparency should also be part of the care provided. During that initial visit, I was told that my dog had torn her other ACL less than four months after undergoing a knee surgery that cost more than $4,600. Only after that surgery was I told that dogs that tear one ACL can be predisposed to tearing the other. That is information I would have appreciated having when considering treatment and the potential long-term costs. After more than six years as a client, I'm disappointed to feel that I now need to be much more proactive about uncovering costs, alternatives, and potential outcomes before agreeing to treatment. If you choose Family Friends, I recommend doing your research, asking detailed questions, and making sure you fully understand the treatment options, alternatives, and associated costs before proceeding.
