I had the herring sample plate, don't remember the exact name, but it was something like Köln Sushi. In any case, it was herring served in a bout 6 different ways and I loved every one of them. This dish is for true lovers of those delightful little fish. They were smoked, marinated, raw, with beets in a salad, grilled, and so on. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I finished it all, something I seldom do. This was the best meal I had in Cologne, and I'd go back for more. That's saying a lot too, as I almost always prefer trying somewhere new. The riverside setting is great for people watching, and for us it was a great place to duck out of the rain for a Kölsch before we decided to stay and dine.

However after I paid my bill, an older owner-looking guy stopped me from heading out and asked me to take my bottle with me. I was embarrassed at first thinking I had to take care of the plates and trash, until the old guy speaking to me with a condescending tone: German people come to a restaurant, order food and drink, they don't drink from their own. You take it with you unless it isn't yours. I simply don't understand the logic that if I have my water already, why do I have to order the unnecessaries from you? Plus, if you can't handle the culture diversity probably you shouldn't do catering on the most international corner in Köln. I welcome any German friend to enlighten me on this. Food wise it was average, I ordered tapas which had no seafood, so probably that was not their specialty.

Also had the special which was a German sausage in a spicy tomato sauce. The perfect German Italian dish. Owner brought over some grilled vegetables the were cooked to perfection. I didn't know it was not the same place until we showed up! Ok - I called to see if they could switch from 8 to 10 - the person who answered didn't speak English but I thought he got it - my bad. They jumped through hoops and accommodated our extra guests which was not an easy task. LOVE the authenticity of this place. Great wines, fantastic food and excellent service. EVERYONE loved it and I was so grateful that they took good care of us since not only did I book the wrong restaurant I didn't update our reservation. I particularly enjoy uniquely styled restaurants that are intimate but classy and elegant. Pure White in Cologne is the perfect expression of what an awesome gastronomic experience is. The personalized service, attention to detail, ambiance, personable and engaging owners only complement the exotic and superb food and wines. Pure White is among my own top five restaurants in the world. I plan to return as often as my travels take me back to Cologne. P.S. Try the lobster soup.. Out of this world!

We arrived shortly before closing and the only thing I did not like is that, they took the booking and then tried to rush us through. Bei unser Ankunft 19:35 (gut gelaunt und voller Vorfreude) wurden wir mit einer dreist überheblichen Art darauf verwiesen, dass man vor 20 Uhr (also in 25 min) keinen Tisch ohne Reservierung bekommt OBWOHL Tische frei waren. Und auch andere Gäste gerade gingen und es keine Schlange gab. Einfach so, weil das eben die Regel ist. Ist mir so noch nie passiert. Daher leider ganz klare Empfehlungen von uns ab heute... besser meiden bis man sich dort freundliches Personal leisten kann, sorry...
