One of the best deals (and some of the best food) in Brussels…read more I try to travel on a budget and a google search of "cheap eats in Brussels" yielded several rave reviews of Mr. Falafel on English-speaking locals/ex-pats websites. I can report that it absolutely lived up to my expectations for quick, cheap, but delicious food only a short walk from the popular tourist sights in the Lower City (about 10 minutes from the Grand Place). For 4.5 euros, you get a toasted wheat pita stuffed with four delicious vegetarian falafel balls, freshly cooked (fried) right after you order. But the best part of this place is the salad bar that accompanies the falaffel. You're given a plastic container and turned loose on the small but well-stocked salad bar that includes the standard lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes, but there are also various pickled and oiled selections of veggies and sauces (including a delicious hummus). You can fill up your little plastic container as many times as you want. One word of warning; the plastic fork you are given is cheap (mine broke about 3 minutes after I started using it), and you'll only be given one plastic container for fixins--I had hoped for a separate one for sauce but no dice. You might want to also consider bringing your own bottle of water--drinks in any European cafe will set you back almost as much as the meal.

We came here a bunch of times on our first visit to Brussels way back in 2013 when there was barely any vegan food around. We thought we'd return for a cheap meal. Currently, it's €7 for a falafel: you get a hearty whole wheat pita, with four freshly cooked falafel balls; then it's self-serve at the salad bar where you can fill your pita plus another small plastic container with various low-quality salads, hummus, hot sauce and other condiments. The pita and falafel are actually decently quality, but the salad bar is pretty lame; I guess I shouldn't expect much for the price. All in all, decent cheap falafel joint, but don't expect high quality.

I came for lunch with a large group, and all the food and drinks were great. I had the veggie…read moreburger, which was made of lentils and quite flavorful. I loved the burger and the accompanying fries, and even the side salad was good. Across our table, we must have gotten every dish on the brunch menu, and everyone was extremely happy with their food. The ingredients tasted very fresh, and the chef made some interesting and unexpected flavor combinations. So why only three stars? This place had the most horrendously rude service I've ever experienced in Brussels, and that's a high bar. We were yelled at collectively as a group, because we ended up having three extra people show up. Organizing big group events is hard enough without a server yelling at you, and they seemed very upset to have the extra business of three people. Several of us were yelled at separately, me for being in the server's way while waiting in line to pay, another for asking the status of the coffee she'd been waiting 20 minutes for, and several others for various things that should not have been issues at all. There were a few cases where the servers mixed up the orders or brought out dishes nobody had ordered, and they got mad at our table for that as well. Despite the inexcusable service, I would still consider going back, either by myself or maybe with one other person, in hopes that we would get better treatment. The food was that good.

I went there with two friends for the brunch on Saturday. We tried the oriental and French brunch. Very filling and tasty. The service is also excellent and very friendly. One of my friends being pregant and having some food allergies, they adapted the menu without complaining and for a very good price. I would highly recommend this place and will defenitely go back to try different brunches and check their lunch menu as well.
