Average course: first time as I was visiting the area and was invited by friends Unsure of the course I opted to ride, but it's definitely walkable in that there aren't hills to navigate. Even w riding I got about 8k steps in. (But I also purposefully will take my "Sunday bag" and walk to my hike and let my seated partner drive to theirs) I'm a newbie golfer (2yrs) but have intentionally tried out various courses and am learning quite a bit about them and how "I" personally rate them: so this is my own personal newbie experience Much like my home course in Aberdeen Maryland: It's flat. Pretty wide open. If you hit halfway decent you shouldn't lose balls to "off the fairway"...unless you really are way way way off the fairway Few hazards...but it's best to go with folk who know where said hazards are..there's one man-made ravine that crossed the fairway on a par 5 that isn't noticeable from the tee box. From the red tees, water was only a hazard a couple of times right off the box The greens were in great shape, and the fairways fine (imo) It runs along the Tn River, so pretty quiet and peaceful and not amongst houses. There's a walking path between "it" and the river so bikers and walkers are seen, but not a disturbance. First time to Point Mallard Golf Course and really enjoyed it. Everyone there were really nice and accommodating, especially when I had my tee time wrong and was running a bit late - thinking I was getting there early and could enjoy a nice warmup and some putts. It was a BEAUTIFUL Autumn day which made the course even more enjoyable! Two of our foursome had never been there and we both commented how much we liked it and look forward to returning. The greens and fairways were in great shape for the most part (if they had sand on the golf carts, I think the fairways would be in better shape). It's a friendly course, that is pretty wide open, has strategically placed sand traps (really deep ones by the way) and some tricky water features. The greens themselves have some really cool twists and turns, too, making the putting piece interesting and fun. I did not have time to check out the pro shop too thoroughly or the "grill." I like the course and play there a good amount but the Marshals are just to much. Followed every hole even sitting at the tee box next to us for some reason. Happens almost everytime and we have no idea why. Maybe young adults and think we don't respect the game. I like it here but only when I don't get treated like I'm gonna do something wrong everytime. read more

When it comes to golf, Point Mallard Golf Course might be the best value in North Alabama. The most important thing to some is probably the condition of the course. For that, Point Mallard gets 4.75 stars. Every now and then, you can find a dirt spot on the fairway. I think this might happen when it gets pretty wet out there, then a puddle of water might dry up and leave said dirt spot in the fairway. This isn't on every hole and it's probably not common that you hit your drive in the fairway and leave it sitting in the dirt spot. I'm not saying this is the grounds crew's fault, it probably just comes with the territory. Other than that, the course is in excellent shape and would have gotten five stars from me. The greens are near immaculate. The tee boxes are nice. The bunkers are nice. The fairway is nice. It's all nice and the crew obviously does a great job. As for scenery, Point Mallard gets 5 stars - it's gorgeous. There's plenty of water and scenery around the course including trees, squirrels (they equate to nature right?), and the Tennessee River. When the leaves change the course is especially beautiful around the first and fourth hole. My favorite hole is number eight - a par three over water. The playability of Point Mallard is a five. The course can be a little long but not too much for the common golfer to overcome. A lot of the tee shots are straight with just a couple of slight doglegs mixed in. There are no blind tee shots that I can recall. As for price, Point Mallard also gets a five. Of course prices may change, but last I recall, 18 holes walking is $22. If you plan on playing Point Mallard Golf Course frequently, I suggest joining and becoming a member. It's $600 for one year and that will cover you to walk the course 7 days a week at no extra charge. A cart is $12. If you want 5 days a week (minus weekends) it's $400. Also, if you've never joined before, they will prorate your membership based on when you join. When you join, you also become a member of the North Alabama Public Golf Association which entitles you to play 5 other courses, once a month, at only the price of the cart. Those courses are Cullman, Goose Pond, Gunter's Landing, Cypress Lakes, and Southern Gayles. For those concerned about playing the same course a lot, that's five other courses you can play once a month, at just the cost of the cart - something I wish I took more advantage of. I joined Point Mallard Golf Course and I must say, I love being able to drive over, check-in, and play a round of golf (walking) at no cost. Five stars for Point Mallard Golf Course. It's as nice as some of the more expensive courses at a pretty good price. That combination equals great value. read more

The golf course is good, the Marshals take most fun out of playing. They were very rude, loud, I reasonable.

Classic southern good old boy's club. If you are a person of color, I would absolutely avoid this place because they definitely discriminate. If you look a certain way, they treat you like gold. Otherwise, they look down their nose at you even though you're paying as much as anyone else. We saw this when my husband played with his friend who is black. The golf "pro" was so blatantly obvious about it. Won't go back. read more

I have played here since 1974. It was rated by golf digest as one of the best 100 golf courses in the USA. (But that was 15 years prior to building the RJT Robert Trent Jones golf trail thru Alabama. ) Best PT Mallard deals are Tuesdays and Thursdays $25 includes the golf cart, lunch and non alcoholic beverage. Can't beat it. Even the discounted senior rate can not beat that. Long beautiful golf course is par 72. Well maintained. (Oh by the way, while you golf the family can go to the fabulous PT Mallard wave pool in the summer. ). All this PT Mallard complex is located right on the Tennessee river. I went this morning to play a round since I was off today. The grounds are in good shape, given the weather we have had lately. It would be well worth the $38 for 18 and a cart of the staff had a little less attitude. It may have been because I was wearing my LSU visor, who knows but aside from the cashier I was less than impressed. You guys did not make me feel welcome at all. I've lived in Decatur for 15 years now and this was by far the worst treatment I've ever received from a business here. I'll drive the extra 15 miles to Huntsville and play Sunset Landing. At least they act like they want my business. Highly disappointed. read more
