I'm still getting around to doing all of my reviews for places in Puglia that we went to in June/July 2018. However, I'm now inspired to get them all done since Puglia made it on the NY Time list of the 52 places to travel to in 2019.
So, I'm not even sure how we discover this place, but I'm sure glad we did. We decided to take a day trip to the Grotto della Poesia with some friends, and knew we would want to eat lunch nearby. This place was just a short drive away, though you probably could walk.
It's a tiny, little cafe style place so when our party of 10 showed up, we basically took over the restaurant. There is a menu in English, but they staff don't really speak it. In any case, we managed to order food and drinks and had a fantastic time. We shared the tapas styled appetizers and each had an entree. The food is fresh, local and delicious.
The purple shrimp, which are a local delicacy were tasty. The black rice and mussels which are also common in the area were also amazing. I was so inspired, I looked for black rice everywhere to bring home. The orecchiette, which is the regions most common shape for pasta, with codfish was my entree and I still drool when thinking about that dish.
If your site-seeing in the area, this restaurant is worth a stop. Or maybe you travel to the restaurant purposely, and know that you can also visit the Grotto Della Poesia. read more
