If I could give it a zero I absolutely would. On 8/09/2026 My wife had her identity stolen and an…read moreaccount opened in her name. She has called the police to file a report and called the bank repeatedly over several days so far and they outright refuse to do anything about it. One person was helpful and filed a complaint, the other two have refused to do anything, won't freeze the account, won't close it, nothing. Calling the closest branch was also completely useless because despite having proof that yes, she is who she says she is, and yes, the account is fraudulent, and yes, there's been a price report filed already they told her that there's nothing they can do. Wells Fargo was more helpful in an identity theft crisis than these people are. So they protect criminals I guess, do with that what you will. I would never recommend this shit bank to anyone.

I guess my bank and I are writing love letters to each other in public now. Here's mine…read more Getting a hand written thank you card from your neighborhood bank branch is good enough reason to stay loyal, but my relationship with BMO goes a lot further back and I will never switch banks if I can help it. Here's why: I've been a BMO customer since they bought Marshall and Ilsley Bank. I was a Marshall and Ilsley customer since they bought First Indiana Bank. Before I became a First Indiana Bank customer, I had a variety of terrible banking experiences with mega banks where I paid out hundreds of dollars in stacked overdraft fees at a time. I thought all the banks were out to get me. Way back when I had little kids we were victims of a vehicle break-in and the person who busted into our minivan ran off with a checkbook. The thief wrote $4700 in bad checks within two or three days. I mostly went to the Nora branch back then and there was a gentleman who took care of us through our mishap. We never had to worry about our bank account being drained. We didn't have problems with a single payment we had to make. Not a mortgage payment. Not a utility payment. Not even a cell phone bill. When this break-in occurred, I wasn't too far removed from those scrappy, youthful days where I *did* have to make choices on what bills to pay on time, and which ones could wait. I was quite relieved. After all, I had just bought my first house not too long prior and I did NOT want to screw that up. Lots of overdraft fees would have likely sunk me. That gentleman at the Nora branch said hello to me by name when I walked in from that incident onward. Eventually I moved to Carmel and the people at that branch got to know me by first name, too. I went on to pick up a (now closed, thankfully) HELOC and they were very helpful throughout the process. Now I live in Broadripple and I get thank you cards that not only come in adorable sizes, but also identify me by who I am; not just by my name. I've always felt respected as a BMO customer but this just drives the message home. I appreciate the card and Starbucks will be on me in the very near future.
