We got vouchers from tipster for a 4-course meal in PMY and what a coincidence it could be since I had been wanting to dine here ever since they opened. South American dishes are among my favourites and I could live on arepas for the rest of my life if I had to do it, so we were in high spirits when we left.
Once we got to the restaurant we were greeted by two waitresses who couldn't speak Danish. Fine enough, yet I have the impression that the waitresses were way too casual for the place as well. I certainly didn't expect black & white uniforms, but maybe a t-shirt, jeans and sneaks are a bit ill-fitting for a dinner service? Oh well, I could put this aside had the food been good, but let's get down to that:
It was a four-course meal, so we expected to be full after, I joked to my boyfriend that we hoped that we wouldn't have to go to a hot dog cart after, but sadly, the joke was too true. The meal consisted of two appetizer and two mains. As I don't eat poultry, I asked if we could replace the other main course and the waitress came back saying we could get a dessert instead. Fine, although the a la carte price for the main was double of the dessert, I paid for the meal slightly cheaper thanks to the coupon anyway.
The appetizers (some sort of ceviche and quesadillas) were excellent, if not too small portion for both of us, but they were appetizers so we thought the mains would be bigger. Then came the arepas as main and they were only two small arepas on the plate for both of us. The waitress came and explained to us how we were supposed to eat the arepas but we were dazed after we saw how small they were, and since we didn't get the other main, this would be our meal and that the prospect of a hot dog cart got unexpectedly more real.
The dessert, the sweet fried dough on ice cream was excellent though, but we left the place hungrier still. Maybe we're just greedy guts who couldn't dine on a four-course meal and felt happy about it but I had dined in a fancy restaurant before with micro-sized meal and yet felt very full after, but they were 7 or 12 courses like. Meal set with fewer courses tend to be bigger, isn't that the rule of thumb, or what do I know these days?
All in all, I was happier that I got to try it via tipster and not paid the full price, because the price for a la carte dishes were quite high compared to the size of the food.
I can't help comparing this place with the other South American place I know around Kongens Nytorv and felt slight affection toward the other place.I think I will choose that over this next time. Sorry PMY, you aren't doing enough to impress my gastric lining. Literally. read more
