There is a large red sign at the front of the shop saying, rather misleadingly, PIANOS. Whilst they do sell pianos, that's really only scratching the surface. The first floor is mainly for classical instruments, whilst the basement houses the guitars, drum kits and amplifiers. There's a lovely corner full of classical guitars, where I can happily while away half an hour, given the chance. The staff are very friendly and never pressure you to buy. There are finance options available for some instruments, too - useful if you're lusting over that new Martin Acoustic, but haven't quite saved enough pennies yet!

Although the prices in Mansons are…read moregenerally higher than online, you cannot fault their skills at setting up the guitars that they sell. The action will be set to your requirements, and the intonation is always spot on. The after sales service is also excellent. For example, I took my bass in for a new machine head and change of strings, and the guys also cleaned the bass and fixed my damaged flightcase latch. As far as amps go, I would buy wherever is cheapest, but Mansons cannot be matched for sales of guitars, even if the prices are higher.

There are many special offers, especially to tempt the beginner - some of the boxed sets (low-priced guitars with accessories) make good gifts. Everything is laid out well on both floors and you can try out the instruments (provided you ask beforehand). There are small stools where you can sit to play the guitars. The staff are pleasant enough but could be a touch more welcoming and helpful. There's a car park to one side of the building which is free for customers. The Enterprise Park is no doubt easy enough to get around if you're a local and used to it but otherwise can be confusing to find specific roads or particular outlets. There's an alarming amount of unsigned roundabouts and T-junctions.

I think I appreciate honesty like that more than most people, and would have gone back to buy one guitar I was eyeing, but instead found one I liked better at Gamlin's in the city centre. It's worth mentioning that any guitar you buy from Cardiff Guitars includes a free case (although if that's somehow incorporated into the cost of the guitar remains to be seen). I would urge anyone in the market for any instrument to stop by Cardiff Guitars. If you're looking for a bit of instruction, they offer lessons as well. A good friend of mine who took a few guitar lessons said it was very helpful, but a bit too expensive for him to continue with long-term.

Hidden away in the depths of the bay, Cardiff guitars does actually have quite a wide range of companies displaying their gear in here. Anywhere that is stocking Schecter is a rarity and will get two thumbs up from me. For the big spenders, their is a huge range of PRS and is always worth a drool if you just want a look. Besides effects pedals, amps etc Cardiff guitar also repair your damaged axe if you've been rocking out a little too hard. Something I really need to do soon and will report back here about it's pricing. Once again I shall go out on a limb and say this friendly place might be the best place for your guitaring needs.
