I'm not the world's biggest fan of Spanish food. I was in Spain for business for about 9 days and…read moredid some traveling while I was there, so I ended up in Salamanca one night. I went out for dinner expecting the usual fare of bread and jamón and other such things but didn't have a place in mind. I chose Montero because it looked nice and cozy and was pretty close to the beaten track of tourist restaurants between the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedrals. This place however blew my mind. The picarones were the best I've had in Spain, and the salmorejo soup was as tasty as any I have had. I considered going back to Montero on my 2nd day in Salamanca, but decided to broaden my horizons by trying another place nearby, which turned out to be lackluster. If I ever travel to Salamanca again, I will definitely have to visit Montero.
