    Fantastic room for $30/nt!
    Leila R.

Booked this place last minute with some travel website bucks, so I was a little nervous as I had never stayed in a hostel before. That being said, this place is so much more than a hostel! It is part hostel, part hotel. I had booked a private room and it far exceeded my expectations! The private bathroom was spectacular and I even had my own private balcony! The bed was so comfy and the multiple pillows provided were near perfection! The front desk staff were so nice! Julio checked me in and was beyond helpful and courteous! I was only in Florence for the night and leaving the next day with a limited number of early morning hours to sightsee. He plotted out all the must-sees on an easy to follow map and even told me about this hill that would give me a fantastic panorama of the city! He was not wrong, it was breathtaking! They had a happy hour the evening I was there and there seemed to always be something going on activity wise, so it seemed really easy to be social. They also had a buffet breakfast you could purchase. I did not since I was going to be out and about, but from what I was told, it was pretty solid for the price. The location is very central. I literally walked all over Florence from here and back and it was very easy to navigate. Also, the main train station is less than 10min walk away. My only complaint here would be the noise. Part of it is the very thin walls/floors/doors of the building itself and the other is just inconsiderate people. I was extremely tired when I got in and all I wanted to do was pass out. However, I kept being woken up by loud yelling, laughing, banging from the other rooms, slamming doors, etc. I eventually had to put in my earplugs. In any case, I cannot speak to the hostel portion of this place, but it was a great overnight stay in one of the private rooms (sans the noise) and honestly, I wish I could have stayed another night or two!

    Tough outlet locations....

I am a fan of Plus Hostel. Pros: + Free wifi + free computer usage downstairs in the computer room + 6 euros for a breakfast buffet every morning starting at 7 AM - 10 AM. That's a GREAT price and the stuff that you get is SO worth it. They have bacon, eggs, bread, juices, coffee, etc. Really great deal. + Friendly staff that are fluent in English and can answer most of your questions. + the rooms are clean and neat. + rooftop bar (closes pretty early though) + good location, walking distance to the train station and many nearby restaurants. (though not the BEST location because it's a bit far from what I would consider the central part of Florence) + pool on the premise Cons: + outlets were in weird places so you had to compromise with charging one thing at a time overnight. + This place seemed to serve a younger population (college aged?) so sometimes it got REALLY loud. I remember one night there was a band playing downstairs on the bottom floor but I can hear them from the 3rd or 4th floor.... and they played loud music past 1 AM. Not the best for people that were trying to sleep to get to an early tour the next day. + elevators were very slow and small so definitely work those legs! Overall, I totally recommend this place. They have other "Plus" Hostels in other countries/cities. I am a fan!

Gum stuck to my bed...Hmm...Who cleans this place?

I am sadly disappointed with PLUS Florence, and I definitely would look elsewhere for a place to stay. This has got to be the strangest hostel I've ever stayed in and I have experienced several. There's really no ambience here, this place is like a hotel. There are not many people hanging around in common areas. There's really only one common area (the pool bar). There's usually only one or max two people at the front desk, creating long, frustrating lines of people waiting to be helped or spoken to. The cleaning doesn't seem to be thorough. There was a piece of chewed up gum stuck on the top of my bed! Unacceptable! The elevators move so insanely slowly you'll get claustrophobic. They're so tiny and can easily take a couple minutes to reach your floor. Take the stairs. I was also pretty annoyed to know that under 18's are welcome at PLUS - really not the type of crowd you want a hostel. It was so weird having a group of 16/17 year olds stand around by the bar and dance with everyone. Not to mention the screaming kid that kept us awake on our floor. NOT at all what I came to a hostel to experience. Not to mention, because of this place's weird likeness to a budget hotel, there are MANY older and senior adults. Again: strange, and not the type of crowd you come to a hostel to meet. The drinks are really overpriced and the shot glasses look like little medicine cups, AND all their inside amenities are closed during the summer. Why??? Overall, PLUS is just not a good option. I really wish I would've done some more thorough research before booking our room here. On the bright side, we did get pretty drunk one night. Drunk me got locked out of my room and they gave me an extra key free of charge, which was nice. The restaurant is decent, but there are several great options around the place to eat. Other than that, no. Look elsewhere!

Crowd: somehow there were a lot of Asians that booked this hostel. I was in a room of all Asian girls, I'm Asian myself and maybe they wanted to put us all together? Hostel: the rooms are freaking huge! It's old though but huge! The place is sooo big. They have courtyards and garden areas, big cafeteria that you can order food. The breakfast is the best breakfast ever for any hostel!! I'm not talking about bread, cereal, and a muffin. I'm talking about a selection of breads, sweets, real food (rice Wth seafood, tomato rice, meatballs with sauce, little hot dogs with veggies, eggs, eggs with bacon, a killer drink machine that makes the best cappuccino!) the breakfast was amazing and they did not cheap out. It was buffet style as well. The bathrooms were plentiful with showers. There's a 2am curfew and a 11pm quiet time. So if you wanna party go somewhere else, because the receptionist guy will give you crap. And tell you to shut up. The wifi is everywhere! And it's pretty good. Hey also have computers you could use as well. And they sell food and water for cheap. They don't try to over charge. A big water bottle was less then 1 euro! Other places sell that for 3 euros. Price was really good for hostel, under 30 euros. This was probably the best hostel I stayed at! Totally recommend if you are in Florence!

As a solo traveler, this place was perfect! First of all, Romina was amazing, amazing hostess with the most-ess! She literally knows everything and anything that's going on in Florence; and she even has her own app!! From the best tiramisu in town to live music, to the "hot new restaurant" - she'll guide your way. So this gorgeous "hostel" was previously an elementary school... gorgeous architecture with marble floors! (I'm sure not too many hostels have that...) But if you can remember your old small gymnasium.. well yeah, that's the main "lobby" part of Tasso, with a bunch of tables and sofas to lounge. And the gym stage is where Tasso hosts the frequent local music acts that play on the weekend! Yeah... how cool is that?!? :) My solo room was quite large, extremely comfortable bed... locker inside to stow my belongings. (Just remember to bring your own combo lock with.) Shared bathroom was totally fine.. i never had to wait; nor do I think I even remember hearing anyone else go in there. ?? Loved this place! It was a total yelp find.. I can't recommend high enough. And I'll absolutely stay here again with future visits to Florence. Being on the other side of the Arno was great... it was certainly "less touristy". I stayed in Florence for a few days, so I even found "my own coffee shop" that i'd frequent because I stayed at Tasso. Tons of charm... amazing service.... totally secure location... comfortable beds... and I met the coolest people from all over the world!

With any hostel experience, you are at the mercy of others to get sleep. The more people you add, the less likely your odds are of sleeping so keep this in mind if you're booking a room with lots of other people. I am a light sleeper so even with ear plus I slept very little. People were turning on the lights, coming and going all night and the doors here slam. This is not the fault of the facility though. The place was kept clean and there was bedding included and a large common area, kitchen and even a washer. Free WiFi too and towel rentals available. Location is great, right by many stores and cafes and near the beautiful bridges and Arno river which is a great running route.

Comfort: We stayed here during the summer months and although there is a fan and the window is open, there is literally no circulation in this room, making it impossible to sleep. As soon as you lie down you are dripping sweat. If you do stay here, book post August time and make sure you 'shot-gun' the top bunk so you can at least be near the high-ceiling fan! The rooms are closed and you need to clear out between 10am-2pm which, though annoying for some, works for those site-seeing during the day. There is access to luggage room when you request a key. Amenities: Otherwise, the hostel is pretty much worth the price, with a room being about €22 a night for a 10 person room (though there is an extra 2 euro cash tax on top). The rooms range from doubles, all the way up to 22-person dormitories. We had the 8 and 10 person rooms. The beds and rooms are spacious and clean and bed linen is included. There are lockers for valuables which require a refundable deposit. They are very generous with allotted internet time, though there are only 2 computers. The bathrooms are clean and large, though the girl's one is a few flights up. There aren't many of them, but I found the availability high and never had to wait. The dining areas are big, with 2 fridges, a kitchen, and lots of large benches at which to eat. Location: Well situated next to the Palazzo Pitti and about 5 minutes from the Ponte Vecchio (the old bridge and river area). Some nice cafes and little restaurants are in the area but it isn't at all touristy and has a more calm feel. Also very close to a *great* gelatto place. Social: Staff was fairly friendly and helpful. Most travellers are quite friendly and it's not uncommon to start up a conversation at the nice (but small) outside terrace or to end up having dinner with another group. Though I didn't find the meeting room very sociable. I would really recommend this place during the colder months or if you are immune to very hot sleeping conditions.
