Resultantly, when visiting the Netherlands, I had to go to Spar. That being said, my expectations were exceeded. Spar in the Netherlands has so many varieties of high quality tasty food, it's almost overwhelming and hard to decide. Much better than Spar Hungary (though that's greta too). I definitely suggest Spar Netherlands to locals and tourists alike. Prices are reasonable too.

They have a breakfast menu that supposedly opens at 10am, but we went 5+ times and it was never available. One of the waiters served us a croissant from the market bakery, so we thought we could bring food from there and have coffee. Even though they weren't serving any food and the kitchen wasn't open for 2 more hours, they made us leave for eating pastries from the bakery. There were no other customers there. They were super condescending, and we were left feeling pretty confused since they're attached to the supermarket and don't serve any food themselves besides yogurt and croissants (from the same bakery). We went 5+ times during our trip, and almost every server was rude, avoided eye contact with us, and would walk away when we were in the middle of ordering. Don't come here if you're looking for somewhere tourist-friendly!

Service was slow for an American but on par for a Brit. No English menu so you do need to google and just risk it. Great beer menu. We had oedipus which is delicious. Had some bitterballen and fried cheese both good. For dinner each of us had a different burger (with bacon and vegetarian with jackfruit). Cooked medium the beef burger was great! Very fresh,great produce on it. No cheese but didn't need it. The bread it was served on was so nice. The market has everything and very nice quality.

The prices and selection are great, ranging from Indonesian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese - and to my pleasant surprise - Filipino! I held back one star because their vegetables, while good, probably will not have a long shelf life. Doesn't matter... Cooked them right away anyways as I was desperately missing Asian flavors in my diet. Can't wait to go back!
